"The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday drained the last bit of life from the city of Dallas and Texas Water Development Board plan to build a massive reservoir called Lake Fastrill along the Neches. Instead, that land will become a wildlife refuge managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The city and the state board had requested that the Supreme Court hear an appeal of a lower court's decision that favored Fish and Wildlife's plan. The court declined." Dallas news link

that is awesome!!
For anyone who hasn't been down the Neches there are some wild woods left there and real solitude in the area of the state that is mostly developed.
I hope Dallas is able to find its water and keep going, but water conservation should be first and foremost. I think a study done by the water development board up there found on avg. Dallas area residents use 30-40 more gallons per person/day than San Antonio or Houston area residents.
That's alot o water

That will just make them rush the two proposed Lake's in Fannin County even more. Just taking away farmland that's been in a family for decades or even a century, so that Dallas can have water....

THose jobs wouldn't have been created. They would simply replace the jobs lost by logging crews, ranchers, and foresters who operate in those woods as of now.

and sig I agree with you....I think most urban residents don't think about the excesses of their actions and how it impacts the rural landowner who is going to be imminent domained so they can have a backyard pool

If they were as strict as possibly with water and still needed, it's more understandable, but when you see the mobil stations and highland park lawns still sprinkling in 24 degrees weather and lush parks and pools in every yard.... no, sorry....

I can't believe that one of the back up plans is to get water out of the ogallala in west Texas. Because it isn't being depleted fast enough already by the cotton farming in the panhandle. And with a recharge rate in the fractions of an inch per year it isn't like the Edwards aquifer. And lets ask San Antonio how getting your water from an aquifer is working out. If cities would mandate that plant irrigation be done by a grey water system it would solve most cities water problems and allow people to have the green lawns that they want. Moreover it would reduce the demand on sewage treatment plants thereby reducing pollution in rivers. But the construction industry especially home construction is slow to change. That is the end of my rant but I support the decision. Until water becomes more expensive people will not change their habits.

I have never seen water wasted the way it is around here. The sprinkler systems are just ridiculous.

Yea, its a real joke. Congrats to no Fastrill Lake, hello to Lower Bois d'Arc reservoir. 2/3 of my familys land will be taken away at a set price that they are giving everyone in the lake project. Absolute joke, the control at NTMWD is purely political and they are immune to TCEQ jurisdiction- I know this firshand and they are very dirty and seething. It is a sad thing to see this happen. If you have ever been to Lake Cooper, it will be essentially the same deal. Hunted it all the time, when irving tied into the new pipe line, never saw the lake full in 5 years after heavy rains. What a joke. And they pin it on the droughts and global warming and say it has nothing to do with the water they are pumping out-um, i call bs and dont talk to me like that. I see it firsthand and is really sad. If you want to let a guy know how you feel, write to James Parks III @ NTMWD and let hime know how you feel. He is King and doesnt take no to kindly.
