I was trying out some items to see the deers reaction the 1 st picture was with leftover watermelon and the second was a toilet paper roll with peanutbutter on it. I got some good response with the peanutbutter, the deer liked it, simple but good.

It's probably the sweet taste of the water in the watermellon and they love nuts/peanuts. Makes sense the peanutbutter was liked better.

Just nail the lid to a post and screw the jar of peanut butter on it with the bottom cut out. The deer will lick it spotlessly clean. Works great in front of the game cam for getting good pics. The cheap oily kind works well.

Yeah I've heard about using peanut butter nailed to a tree, tried it once and 3 days later the jar was gone, I was jacked for a jar of peanut butter by some/a deer, lol.

I grew way to many watermelons last year and put them out at the feeder. Never lasted through a feeding. At first I would put them out whole, but nothing bothered them, so i kicked them to break them open. Deer loved them, Rhine and all. Wish I had pics, maybe this year. I did have a pic of a seed stuck on my camera. Not sure how that got there.

Mine like bread, peanutbutter, but not whole peanuts, soybeans, all kinds of kitchen stuff, tater peelings, carrots, any kind of melons and squash, turnips and turnip greens, spinach and all kinds of greens from the garden. They love tree leaves if their area is overbrowsed.

I had grown watermelons in my garden for several years. Well I busted one open and ate the heart and left the rest for the birds thinking nothing of it. Few days later I noticed it gone. A couple more days pasted and I went to check the remaining melons and sure enough something busted open all the big-uns, I couldn't figure out what in the heck would or could do that so I started looking closer and sure enough there they were DEER TRACKS. I guess that was the first time I knew there were deer living in the area.
Well for several years afterward I grew watermelons and okra just for the Deer. Now ten years later they are year around residents. Maybe I will plant them some melons this year!
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

We used to raise watermelons (leased it out to a farmer actually) when I was a kid and the biggest problem was deer eating them. Pretty funny to watch them jump up and down on a watermelon trying to break it open.
The hunting on that place has never been as good as it was back when we raised watermelons and peanuts. I quit hunting it altogether just a few years after that time.
I'm going to try to peanut butter trick.

Red Chain Feed Co. in Gorman makes a pellet feed out of peanuts that actually works really well in my feeder. The deer love it and on good peanut years the protien level will be pretty high on that stuff (18%). We started using this in '07 and had the best size and mass ever!

I've never used peanut butter down south, but I'd imagine on hot days, it would just drain out.
Be careful for coons too, they'll clean ya out of PB.
HAPPY HUNTING

Another trick is to take peanut butter honey and oatmeal and mix it up thick. Pack it in plastic cups with string in it and chill. When you get to your hunting site hang the string from a tree branch and peel the cup away. This will make a deer lick and when it starts to melt it will drip attracting deer to keep vistiing the spot. These are easy to transport and you can set up several around your site and can replace them easily. Works great for getting them into bow range. Will also attract Coons, Bear and other critters to the area. Can use this to bait traps also.

During my younger days, I worked at a flea market in Nacogdoches. There was always a vendor or two who had fruit and vegie stands. During the fall, I ran across one fellow who traveled from houston to tyler to different fruit stand location with truck and trailer. He would ask for their bad fruit or fruit that they were going to throw away. He had a lease in S.Texas and had one place on the lease where he would dump all the fruit and vegies. He said that the deer would flock to the spot. He had his own business and didnt work that much and had plenty of time to do this. Sounds like a good idea, but a lot of work.

They have even eaten my tabasco pepper plants down to the ground including pepper pods.

The coons will take care of it before the deer does.
