thinking about getting this gun for myself and later on pass it down to my son as a protection pistol which wont be for a couple years. tell me any flaws that u think or know this gun has and any good things about this gun. it will be my protection pistol and just to mess around with. thanks in advance. also the protection will be from hogs all the way up to 300 or so pounds. http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=co...0358-03613-5102

Rossi puts out a great low priced revolver that has been around a long time. It's not a Smith but it is a good functioning reliable firearm. Purchase with confidence.

i would go with something that a little more barrel length that 2 inch barrel will have a big muzzle blast when fired. and with rossi watch out for quality control promblems

For hog protection I'd give it a try, If it malfunctioned I could throw it at them and climb a tree.

For self defense I'd look elsewhere.

Hard to beat for the low price. I like snubbies, and I don't find the muzzle blast to be excessive in any way with a .38.

If it's all about money, by all means grab the Rossi. Otherwise, I would look at Ruger's SP-101, S&W Chief, and also consider charter arms for a 5 shot .44 special. The Smith is the smaller of the two, the Ruger is the more durable of the two, and the Charter is the only .44 special that is continuously manufactured.

I'd rate rossi just below taurus, but above Hi Point... both are pretty weak for Hogs... A nice 4 inch taurus 357 would be a good starting point

I'm fine with Rossi products, though I would want more muscle for a hog critter personally. Haven't taken on any hogs, but I respect their mass and energy. But het, use a slingshot if it's all ya got!

For protection I would go with a semi auto pistol just because they hold a few more rounds and can be fired quickly.

A revoler can be fired just as fast as an auto. They hold fewer rounds but the rounds are more powerful. I carry an S&W 442 .38spl for a backup and when I am off duty. I have shot numerous rounds through it without any problem. For hunting a 4in barrel would be better. If you want a gun to conceal, and 1 7/8" J frame is good. You cant go worng with a wheel gun. It will never jam or fail you.... You cant say an auto will never jam. I've yet to see a revolver malfunction.

135gr +P Speer Gold Dots will stop anything out there.

Dont waste you're money on that Sigma....

Your pretty much gonna get a lot of different answers on this one as everyone has different opinions. It is best to go and hold a couple different guns and see which feels good and comfortable to you.

If you aren't just looking at revolvers, you may want to check out a Kel-tec P9.

Kel-Tec PF9

It's a little more then the Rossi, but I've seen good reviews on it.

We would rather shoot at a charging hog /or intruder with a .40 Hi Point than with a Rossi .38 revolver is what we were saying grin

Charging Hogs???? Are you serious? When? Where?

My guess is some guy was just standing on the same trail that a pig had chosen for its escape route. After several tellings and a few brews, the event morphed into a "charge."

There is nothing wrong woth Rossi revolvers. For your price point, Rossi or Taurus is where'd I look for a revolver. When it comes to hogs, I keep a rifle handy. I have never had a hog charge at me, but I wouldn't want to rely on a .38 if it happened.
