This is my first post on this site and im glad to be part of it , but thats off subject. My lease is in San Saba County and some hunters on it called down and said they where chasin does and fighting like its the rut. Well the rut has already passed about a month ago so this is the second rut im guessing?I am aware of this but not from expirence. Any info would help, also in hill country hunter noticing this your input is helpful. thanks.

Hello Dr_BackStrap ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) (Cool Handle), Welcome to The Texas Hunting Forum! ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif) Actually, what you are seeing is the "3rd Phase" of "The Rut". Typically after Thanksgiving til the end of December. The rut has peaked, and only a few does are still cycling. In a slightly scaled-down fashion, this homestretch stage mimics the pre-rut as bucks renew their desperate pursuit of the few remaining does in heat. Some of the largest bucks of the year are taken during this sleeper period, when many hunters think the best hunting is over.

I came back Saturday and saw a nice 8 looking going from stand to stand may be 1/2 mile apart. The little guys were not chasing. Had several does and several spikes, 4s and the like aroud the stands but not much was going on.I hunt north of Brady, McCullock Co.

A little further north in Nolan County, I saw bucks still chasing on 12/23 and 12/24. Actually, the only bucks that I saw were chasing does. There were three bucks chasing one doe on one side of the ranch and two more, chasing another on the other side. I think we counted about 25 does, two of which were in heat. I was very surprised! ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banana.gif)

I just got back from my Sutton County lease (Sonora), and the bucks were definitely chasing does. Some of the more mature bucks were a little underweight and hungry.
