Guys I just bought a tower box blind and need to know how to get it down. Basically its a box blind on 4x4's and 2x4 cross sections. Its not all that sturdy and I am going to use the blind on the ground.
I am just not sure how to get it down.
PS if anyone in the Uvalde area is looking for a 15 foot tower blind I know where one is cheep.

2 thoughts -
1)Tie 2 40 ft pieces of stout rope under the box where it attaches to the tower and the other ends to the bumper or brush guard of a fairly heavy pickup. Back up the truck so you have a little slack in the line - just enough so the stand can be tipped but not fall over - then SLOWLY drive the truck back and lower the stand to the ground. This will work ONLY if the blind is very securely attached to the stand - be sure and chock the legs that the blind is pivoting on
2) take a chainsaw and cut 6 inches off each leg until it is on the ground or low enough to be stable.
Either of these will work but you must take your time and watch out for problems - and be ready to get out of the way.

i have never had anything to do with a 15 foot stand. but what i do is i back the truck up on one side of the blind then get ropes/cumalongs. and pull it back over the truck slowely. then as it tips get about 4 strong guys to hold it up and go down with it into the bed of the truck. it works for 10 foot blinds.

Not trying to discourage anyone from what they want to do, but can I ask you a question. If said blind falls on your truck and you got to get it fixed, how much is your deductble. Would it be cheaper to leave said stand there and build you another one, and not suffer any damage to your truck.
What about your 4 guys, what happens if one of your buds gets hurt and wants to sue someone. Either you or the landowner, because it happened on his property, he is liable.
Just a question, would it be cheaper and easier to build another one.

A friend and I tackeled the problem yesterday and were actually successful with just the 2 of us.
We took a goose neck trailor and backed it up to the blind and chained each leg off to the trailor. Next we ran a rope around the top of the box as high as we could reach and tied it off to the truck. I started pushing backwards and the rope caught hold. He backed the truck up and it laid softly onto the trailor. Worked like we had been doing it for years, but of course we had no idea what we were doing.

If you have 4 guys to catch it when it is falling it is VERY EASY. remember it is not falling fast it is falling VERY SLOW. because you are already 3 to 4 foot off of the ground (standing on the tailgate of the truck). to catch the blind falling slow. we have been doing it this way for 20 plus years and have tried other ways this is the easiest way. we have never had a problem with it.

me and my brother have done this to some monsters. anchor two legs have one truck on one side tied t blind up high and another truck to other side tied up high . pull with one and keep tension on it with the other. lower to ground and then pick it up with one and back trailer under it. very safe for you and your truck.

I know some guys that use a gin pole. The only trick is getting the pole set in the right place. With this method, 1 person can erect any tower blind by himself safely if you can get a truck close enough to it.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

the trucks are very ssafe because your in the truck and no strain o the back. we used to stand em up by hand but had a bad experience TWICE and started using the trucks.

So, am I understanding that the trailer was on one side and truck on the other so you backed toward the trailer as the trailer stayed parked?
I have 2 30' tower blinds made out of drill pipe that were left behind from previous hunters before I bought the property several years ago. Aside from just knocking them down I'm not sure how I could get them down in one piece so I could cut the legs down and refurb them. The other problem is that they are surrounded by trees. They have basically been buzzard roosts since I've owned the place.

30 FOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would just leave them if the blind is no good tear the bling down with a chain saw while the blind is in the air. then just take the tower down. it would be alot safer.

Yep, and that's 30' to the floor. Both are all one piece construction welded drill pipe and sucker rod. The blind part was floored/walled with plywood wired to the sucker rod. Roof was corrigated fiberglass. I've only hunted in them a couple of times because of the nose bleed factor. Even with guy wires the slightest wind and your swaying back and forth. Because they are so tall and heavy safety is a big issue. I'm sure that they will probably break apart if I just pull them over even though they are welded together.

i would try just to tear the blind apart in the air. then try pulling the stand down. and if 30 foot is too high try to rework it and shorten it.
