Has anyone used their Ipod/Iphone as a calling device? Thinking about building a external speaker outta a damaged bose docking station. Just need to find a place to download some sounds if it all works out.

I use my ipod and got my sounds from western river and varmint als. All you need other than that is a inline amp from radio shack that will run you like 14 bucks and then a speaker and it will be more than loud enough for coyotes!

What type of speaker do yall use?

I picked up the amp and speaker from Radio Shack. The numbers are listed on the varmintal website. Search for El Cheapo electronic caller in the coyote hunting pages.

It ran me around $62 including the tax. Amp was $14, speaker was $25, and a patch cord that runs from the mp3 player to the amp, and a few extra jacks. You'll need to add a jack to the speaker so it will plug into the amp. That is the only thing that has to be rigged, other than that, its a plug and play set up. And it's louder than you would expect.

So $62 and your mp3 player and your set.

Here is the set up I made... I already had the ipod and I got an old lohman cd player caller years ago for christmas that broke so I got the speaker with the really long cord off of that. All I had to buy was the cord from the amp to the ipod and the amp itself. Plus a new jack for the speaker wire. I think it cost me around $25 bucks

Okay, so if I download a sound, and its only a 6 seconds long, how do I get it to play longer on my iPod?

I built an MP3 caller just like the one above. The white noise--or speaker noise--drove me crazy, and I never did very well using it. Just an FYI before you spend your money.

I built one off the model on VarmintAl's page and it works. You have to search different sites to find sounds that don't contain the background "white" noise. The one's I got from Western-Rivers don't seem to have near the amount of noise as others.

Yeah I dont have the problem with the static and white noise with mine. You also have to mess with the volumes on both the ipod and the amp to see where they sound the best

you might try setting it like a car system.....use the volume ont he amp as your "gain", turn it down very low to start with, turn the volume on the ipod up to where you want it, then slowly turn the volume up on the amp to the desired level, then dont mess with the vlume on the amp, just the ipod

my buddy had that on his and we were listening to music in my truck and then all the sudden i here yotes and i freaked out ha but yea they sound real good

Haha Yep been there! Once you put the sounds on your ipod you get a suprise now and then if you have it on shuffle! Nothin like a squealin jack rabbit when you least expect it! lol

i need to build me one of these, havent called in anything but a hawk so far. with my luck ill be doing some calling and some toby keith will start playing haha
