I have never hunted in TX before, but I have some family in TX that has feral hogs on it.
I have contacted the Texas Parks & Wildlife and I know what the licensing requirements are for me and I'm waiting for a reply to make sure that they will recognize my out of state Hunter Safety Education card.
My question is. . .are AR15's legal in TX. . .specifically ith a pistol grip, threaded muzzle device (not a silencer. . .flash supressor/compensator), and an adjustable (not collapsible, just adjustable for length of pull and cheek height)?
Also, is there a magazine capacity restriction?
I'm building an AR15 in 6.8 SPC right now and I want to make sure that I'm gonna be able to bring it down this summer when come back and make sure that I have legal magazines. . .buying a couple of low capacity magazines won't cost me much of anything if I need to.
Thanks for the help!

Yes AR's are legal to kill them with. And around here you can kill them with about anything I think. Knife, fork, spoon, frying pan.... I don't know about the capacity though. Probaly should keep it under a 100 round drum though.

Thanks guys. . .not a fan of the 100 round drums!!! I probably won't ever have anything over a 30 round mag, and it seems like 25 round is kinda the "standard" sized mag for the AR15 in 6.8. Tanner1st. . .I'm hoping that I will love it too. I'm building it around a MegaMachine billet upper/lower receiver combo (M4 style receiver w/forward assist) and I just ordered my barrel/bolt/carrier assembly from AR15 Performance ( www.ar15performance.com I also got the 6.8 etched ejection port door). It's a 16" PacNor stainless steel barrel with 12x3 button rifling and ARP's 6.8x43 chamber (have been shooting under 1" in 16" Recon barrels. . .so my PacNor should be able to beat that) and a matching headspaced ARP 9810 SuperBolt and carrier assembly. Now I have to save some more cash to grab a MagPul PRS stock, a railed foream, muzzle device, lower parts, and a scope and I'll be set!!! I'm going to be using it up here in Washington state for whitetail, mulies, cougar, bobcate, coyote, and maybe some black bear (not sure if it's an adequate caliber for black bear or elk yet???) It's hopefully gonna be replacing my HEAVY .22-250 Weatherby Vanguard varmint gun and I'll have a lighter, more maneuverable gun that's more suited for the brushy terrain up here, but still be able to reach out and nail a 'yote at a distance.

Definately 10-4 on the 6.8 SPC. You'll find to be a great hog caliber.

Just got word from ARP that they wouldn't hesitate to use the 6.8 on black bear or elk inside 300 yards which confirms what I've been told by others. . .
. . .hopefully this will be my I can hunt everything in Washington gun. . .and I know it will be my go-to hog gun everytime I go to visit family in TX!!!

I'm sure they will accept your hunter safety card. They accepted mine and it didn't have a number on it like most do from here (tracking and replacement availability).
You love the 6.8 SPC for sure. If ya don't want to keep packing it I'll shoot it for ya.......I mean I'll store it for ya here!!
There is no magazine limit for hogs here!! Only bad thing is they get heavy if you're stalking the critters. I normally load less in the mag to help w/ weight.
Have fun and take lots of pic's.....we like pic's!!

Directly from TPWD site.
Means and Methods Firearms Game animals and game birds may be hunted with any legal firearm, EXCEPT:
white-tailed deer, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope may NOT be hunted with rimfire ammunition of any caliber. shotguns are the only legal firearm that may be used to hunt Eastern turkey during the spring Eastern turkey season (see County Listing). Rifles and handguns may not be used to hunt Eastern turkey. pellet guns and other air guns are NOT LEGAL. fully automatic firearms are NOT LEGAL. firearms equipped with silencers or sound-suppressing devices are NOT LEGAL. a shotgun is the only legal firearm for hunting migratory game birds (see Definitions - Legal Shotgun). Nongame Animals (Non-Protected): Any lawful firearm, pellet gun, or other air gun is legal.
Magazine Capacity (number of shells/cartridges allowed): There are no restrictions on the number of shells or cartridges a legal firearm may hold when hunting game animals or game birds (except migratory game birds, see Legal Shotgun).
Muzzleloader: Any firearm that is loaded only through the muzzle. Note: A cap and ball firearm in which the powder and ball are loaded into a cylinder is not a muzzleloader. Muzzleloader deer seasons are restricted to muzzleloading firearms only.
Possession of firearms by felons: A convicted felon, regardless of where the conviction occurred, may not possess or use a firearm (as defined by Penal Code, §46.01) to hunt in this state. Under Penal Code, §46.01, a muzzleloading firearm is lawful if it is an antique or curio firearm manufactured before 1899 or a replica of an antique or curio firearm manufactured before 1899 that does not use rimfire or centerfire ammunition.
You can use your AR with the Pistol grip, collapsable stock, flash suppressor and all. Only restrictions are it can't be reimfire caliber and can't have a sound suppressor (silencer). Flash hider is not a sound suppressor.

Oh, and Texas accepts ANY OTHER states Hunter Education cert./card.
Again. Directly from TPWD site. Listed under Hunter Education, then Frequently Asked Questions.
I took Hunter Education in another state. Do I still need to take the Texas course?
No, Texas recognizes Hunter Education certificates from all other states. You will need to carry a proof of that certification on your person while hunting in Texas. We cannot duplicate Hunter Education certification from other states and provinces, you will need to contact the agency that regulates Hunter Education in that state

Cool. . .thanks again guys.
Yeah I read that FAQ about the hunter safety cards, but I missed the ALL part. . .I was looking for a list of states because the email they sent me initially was a little vague.
ARP is chambering my barrel specifically for my needs right now as we speak!!!

Hogs aren't game animals, meaning any legal firearm can be used, including rimfires, full autos, and silenced weapons, provided that the user has the needed licenses and permits for any restricted weapons.
