I have a chance to hunt Whitetails in Mexico for $1500.00. This inculdes all licence and tag fees. I know the guide and he says there are tons of deer on the ranch, but all you can bring back across the border is the horns and cape. No meat. Does this sound like a good deal to you or not?

You had better jump on that hunt for sure. They generally start at $3000 and go up from there!!!!! But, if you read on,,,, there are a lot of unexpected costs involved with a Mexico deer hunt!!!!
My brother went down there and harvested a 140 class 13 pointer on his last day. Said he saw some larger ones, but it was very heavy brush and they would disappear in a heartbeat. Remember that most all the hunts down there are "high rack" hunting. Just driving around sitting on top of that rough riding high rack, hoping to see one bust up. You had better be good at a running shot, as most of the big ones have gotten smart to the driving around thing and haul butt when they see you or hear you!
My brother said, he is right about the meat can not be brought back across the border. If you are going there for a real trophy old buck, you wouldn't want that meat anyway. Way too strong game taste. Wait to shoot that doe back home for the freezer.
An excellent pair of binoculars is a must there!
Just talked to my brother. He said it's a pain to take your guns over there. One thing your outfitter might not have mentioned and I sure didn't know. It costs about $500 for the permit to take your gun over there and your hunting license. The stack of paperwork that you will have to fill out is awesome. It takes 30 minutes to declare at the border and for them to log everything you have. Then, it takes a minimum of one hour when you come back across. You have to account for everything you took over there,..... gun, shells, knives, etc. You can only take 20 rounds per gun over there.... no exceptions. Anyway, he said he spent $4000 total by the time it was all said and done... tips, gun registration, license, outfitter, etc.

SEASON LEASES MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM A PACKAGE HUNT, BUT WE WERE ALLOWED 200 ROUNDS OF AMMO PER GUN, WITH A MAXIMUM OF 2 GUNS. HUNTING FROM HIGH RACKS VARIES FROM RANCH TO RANCH, BUT IT IS NOT THE ONLY WAY IT IS DONE IN MEXICO. HAG IS RIGHT ABOUT THE HASSLES THOUGH. CHECK IN AND OUT SHOULD BE ALLOTTED SOME TIME AS HAG STATED. WE LEFT THE GUNS IN MEXICO SO WE DIDN'T EVEN STOP MOST OF THE TIME WHEN GOING TO THE RANCH. TROPHYHUNTER

Yeah, season versus package hunts are indeed different. His was a package hunt with 5 days permitted access with a rifle. In those instances, you are only allowed 2 boxes of ammo. But, he said he would do it all again, if he had the chance.

The guns are furnished. He told me it was a pain to take a gun with you. They have .300 win mags there for the hunters. Sounds like a good deal, but $1500.00 is still alot of money to shoot something and not get any meat.

If I weren't going to New Mexico Thursday and then again in November, I'd volunteer to take your place in a heartbeat! Mexico hunts aren't really for meat, they're for a buck of a lifetime, if you're hunting the right area. If you aren't wanting a buck of a lifetime, then it's definitely not the hunt to go on. You can go on a South Texas hunt for that money and get a doe, maybe a management buck and a chance at a possible trophy buck.

Kolt - If you can get me the same deal for $1,500, I'll shoot a doe for you on the Texas side!
