Do any high fence ranches allow hunters to hunt without a guide being present? I know some low fence ranches allow hunting alone, but I never heard of a high fence ranch doing so.

Yes, there are actually a lot that do. They are called semi-guided hunts. Normally the guide will jusy drop you off aand then you hunt by yourself.

You can even lease spots on a high fence ranch .....ouch !!

i have taken some folks out and let them hunt unguided, but not until i had a chance to get comfortable with them first.
i was still on the property, but let them hunt on their own.
my blinds are big enough for 3 for this reason.

unfortunately, when money is on the line, it is surprising how many people "clean miss" an animal vs wounding it, when nobody is around.

it is a big risk to the landowner/ranch since without a guide, you will be relying on the hunter to tell you if they hit an animal or missed it. plus, you have no control of them shooting the wrong animal, be it whitetail or exotic. you will likely be required to sign an agreement prior to heading out. it will outline rules and fees if you hunt something you are not supposed to.


there are many fine ranches in the hill country, i would just talk to a few of them and let them know what kind of hunt you are interested in doing.

I hunted some of those petting zoos the size of Rhode Island, and bigger than Delta county... so are those wrong for your standards too?

I don't know of any that aren't fully guided unless your after hogs.

you can find HF "properties" that run just like leases. You pay for a spot, you get 'X' amount of deer to kill, no guide, you may never lay eyes on the owner of the place. Hunting places like that comes with a lot more responsibility than hunting free-ranging deer; you absolutely have to keep your numbers in check.

my fiance grew up hunting on a place like the one I mentioned above... the HF section was 6K acres, next to it the same person owned 6K acres non-HF. A "family membership" was set at $1000, and could take 2 Trophies (1-HF, 1LF), 1 Cull (either) and 3 does (3-HF) and if you couldn't get it done on the does, let someone know so they could get it done for you. It is more that $1000 now, but still is less than what a lot of places offer for a management hunt.

6 deer for $1K or a little more.....sign me up if there is another opening or let me know how to contact them.

It's flirting with $2K now, it was $1K when her family got off the place.

if its alot of land behind that fence its not in any way a zoo or different then the way you hunt on your low fence free range deer lease.do you feed corn and protien and do food plots on your lease if you do it aint no different.
