I just bought an DPMS 223 with a 20" stainless bull barrel and put a Nikon 4.5-14x40 scope on it. I'm just wondering what to expect for accuracy and if ya'll have any experience or opinions on this rifle. I will be using it for varmint hunting and an occasional coyote.

I recently got my first asewll which is a Bushmaster Predator with a 20" model 1 barrel. I am still debating what scope to get for it. So many options with these ARs. juggle

If I was going to drop that kind of cash it would be for a Trijicon A.C.O.G.!

I'm trying to get a scope for my ar now. I have a Leupold VX II 3x9x40 and I want more magnification for longer shots. Just my .02

I have that upper with just a 3X9 Bushnell 3200 Firefly. Mine is a tack driver at a hundred yards. I shoot the Hornady Vmax 55 gr and 40gr. If you do your part you can shoot a half inch group from a bench. Use mine for varmint and hogs great gun.

I have had a few ACOGs, the accupoints use the same technology but are much better suited for hunting

Am I the only one that noticed this guy already has a scope and was asking about accuracy ?? rofl

An average AR should hold around 1.5 MOA and under. Ihave owned a couple that would do .5.

I read the 1st reply...

his gun should shoot sub MOA easily with the right load
what rate of twist is the barrel and what do you plan to hunt with it primarily?

It's 1 in 9 twist and hopefully I'll be shooting p-dogs with it.

Congrats on the AR! Brandon972's answer is spot on. As with any rifle, find the load that works best. I shoot a 22 inch R-15 and it likes Black Hills 68 Match HP and holds 1 inch groups. I'm sure I could do better once I get a trigger job.

with a 1 in 9 and considering what you are shooting at I would stay on the lighter side of the bullet weights

try a few in the 50-55g and see what groups the best
45g loads usually work better in slower 1 in 12 and most 1-9s don't stabilize much over 62-64g

some generalities of course and you may find different with your particular gun..

I recently purchased my first AR too. A remington r-15 with an 18" barrel 1 in 9. Sighted it in today for the first time with factory remington 50g jhp rounds and got a 4 shot group of just under 1" at 100 yards when I was finished.

I think I could get a little better group than this with some better ammunition.

Brandon:
I'll call you on Monday and see when you can do a quick turn around, maybe while I wait. I'm over here in Flower Mound. Definately put a kit aside for me!
