Recently purchased an R-15 in .223 caliber and would like to know what type of scope you all would recommend for this rifle. Not looking for anything to expensive (under $200).

ANy scope you would use on any other rifle will work fine. Its the mount for ARs that are type specific.

Okay. What type of mounts would you recommend.
I'm planning on doing mainly varmint hunting with this rifle, and would like to know what power scope is preferable for this application.

I would reccomend something like a 14x magnification for varmint hunting.

What price range are you in >. YOu can spend $20- $300.
I would go with the Burris pepr for about $60-$75. If you dont mind droppping the dime I would go with a Larue.
Primary Arms make a cheap one that I have had good luck with for about $30 but I wouldnt put an expensive optic in it.

I would reccomend something like a 14x magnification for varmint hunting. I agree ! I would go with like a Leupold 4.5-14x 50 for varmints !

Thanks for the help guys. I think I may go with the Burris Pepr and us a scope from another gun for the time being.

I have mounted a Bushnell Banner "dusk to dawn" 6x24x40 ( R-15 in 223) which was only about $125.00 at BassPro. My intention was to switch it out to a better scope but I have been pretty satisfied with it, therefore leaving it on this past season.

You almost have to go with a 14 power for varmint hunting in my opinion. You might want to save a little money or find something on the forum thats above the 200 price range and go with the bushnell elite series. Heard a lot of good things about them.
