I'm in the market. I am looking for a 26" barrell but will not sacrifice quality or accuracy for 2 extra inches. Well, not on a gun anyway. I'm looking for suggestions. I can say that I will not be buying a custom one off rifle ($$$) nor a Remington Sendero. The price range of the Sendero is acceptable but Remington is just not the gun for me. I know Sako made some years back but have not been able to put my hands one. I guess im looking for advice on a known good gun in this caliber. Any help appreciated. Chris

I could only suggest custom for this caliber. They are very hard to find on the shelf.

Why the .264 Win Mag? Got losts of ammo for it???

LONG WINDED WORTHLESS SPEACH BUT READ AHEAD IF YOU CHOSE.

I have no acceptable answer as far as why. Only that I've wanted one for at least ten years. Its kinda like the 375 H&H I had to have one and nothing else would do. I realize there are calibers that will out perform the old 264 but thats ok. I like the 6.5/264 in the 140-160gr range. Always have. Although I have had several 6.5x55s i've never owned a .264 win mag. I will probably buy a 260 as well before its over but my next purchase is to be a .264. I guess my overall goal to have a sub MOA gun that I can also make clean kills with out to 400 yards or so. I know, I know, alot of calibers fit the bill but my favorite guns are odd balls. .357 lever, 6.5x55, 22 Hornet etc.. Really, how many people do you know with a Remington 700 in .270? Everyone? I'm the fool that will spend 2x on ammo that I cant find to get similar performance. Not knocking em, they are great guns. Just wanting to take my own path. Often when I go the racetrack im the only guy not runnig a small block chevy. Guess I got a little long winded here but thats why the .264 Win mag. Probably read an article about a sheep hunt 20 years ago with a 264 and I just cant let it go.

I understand. cheers I seem to be in the same class as you. I think I'd rather have a 6.5 Grendel (sp) instead. I guess a custom one might be next........that's after a BAR in a 7MM WSM. grin

Rifles for the 264 are hard to find.

Of course the Classic would be a pre-64 M70 Westerner...but you would pay for it!

Since you don't like Remingtons, I would recommend that you find a used M70 in 7Mag or 300WinMag and have it rebarreled.

The 264 is one cool cartridge, and handloaded it will stay with pretty much anything out there for an open country deer rifle. My current 264 likes 125gr Partitions at 3300fps, loaded with IMR7828. Current factory ammo for the 264 (Win or Rem 140gr) is loaded pretty weak, and is frankly close to 270 performance (which ain't too shabby).

Do you not care for the Sendero or Remington's in general? My primary hunting rifle is a 700 Classic in 264...26", stainless / synthetic. It has been nothing but a pleasure to handload and hunt with for years. Sub moa straight out of the box - I have not had to make any adjustments to it whatsoever.
I have been shooting 264 win mags for almost 30 years and still love the caliber just as much today as when I started. As mentioned, factory ammo is somewhat limited, but there are some great options for a handloader. Good luck.

Remington is a great company with a great product. They are just not for me.

I actually have a 264 in a Sako--- I would say its in decent to pretty good shape. Let me know if you have any interest in it. For the right price or trade I would probably let it go

Mod. 70 Winchester, mnf.'71. 90+%. 24" barrel, Connect the dots gun. Also have 200+ rounds factory ammo and est. 200+ rounds once fired brass.

To the two gentlemen above if you could post or pm me prices on the Sako and the Model 70 I may be intersted. As far as the Browning the 22" barrell is a bit short for what im looking for and I probably couldnt afford to buy it and rebarrel it. Thanks, Chris

I had to have a .264 also. I wanted a good all weather gun too. I got really lucky and found a Ruger m77 stainless in .264 and I am working on a load for it now. I am close, but need to float the barrel, I am stringing up the shots without a cool down period. It has a 24 inch barrel. I know my smith says you need a 26 inch barrel to achieve full round potential.

I think I still have 4 boxes of 264 Remingtons that I will take $100 for if anyone needs any.

We have a couplof the pre64's. They will stay in the family forever. I would recommend looking into hand loads of 120grain bullets.
