I would like to know everyone's opinions on No Plow & Throw-N-Grow. I am only interested in actual users of these products and please include pics if possible, did you use lime, fertilizer, etc... I would especially like to hear about people in East Texas around Polk and surrounding counties who have used these products. Like I said, if you have pics of your plots using these products please include them if possible, thanks, Frank.

Not in east Texas, but I've thrown out oats on unbroken soil, and had a lot of success. Look at the forecast and try to spread them before a light rain.

I'm not in east texas but have used it where I live near Stephenville. No lime needed out here. If you have a lot of pine trees, I'm sure you may need it there. Do a soil sample test.....it's easy. All you have to do is take several samples of your soil in different areas of your foodplot footprint (up to about 12-16" deep), put it in a plastic baggie, and send it off. I believe BioLogic will do it for you. They will let you know how much fertizer and lime (if any) you will need to apply. Fortunately for me, a local nursery owner knows my area pretty well and let me know what I needed for success without having to do a soil test. You may want to check with a local nursery as well for their input. Anyways, mine worked pretty well and the deer attacked it. I cleaned the area up with a weedeater and rake and then just cast it out. Grew like a champ. My best advise would be to watch the weather forecast and spread the seed just before a rain. The rain will drive the seeds into the ground and provide the needed moisture for it to grow. It probably will not work for you unless you plant it just before a rain. Good luck, mine works well for year after year when I get the rain. sorry, no pics. By the way, I do mix 13-13-13 fertilizer in a bucket with my seed and then broadcast it out with a seeder.

about what time of the year do ya'll plant it? I do have lots of pine trees, but oats have been grown here before w/out a problem, deer didn't care much for the mthough cuz so many people plant just oats. I want to use the throw-n-grow and no plow cuz my area is very difficult to get my 60hp tractor to or any other equipment for that matter, lol. I am sure with some raking, and fertilizer mixed as you say then I should have good results also, but again, when/what time of the year should I plant? I want to have something out for them throughout the year if possible!!!

I tried the throw n go this year and think it did pretty good. I didn't do all of the prep work that Cody did, but thats because i didn't read the destructions before my GF ripped the bag open and started throwing it. I put it out around the first of October and have only fertilized it once. It is about an 1" to 1" 1/2 tall right now & pretty thick in most areas.

Yeah a lil bit of prep work and some initial fertilizer would have been great for yours, maybe a good 6" plant? What's the tallest it's been?

Probably 5" or so around the cow patties. I cant keep the darn cows from mowing it. It is a test area that is unfenced.

Cool, so seems like October is the ticket then? Has any of you guys used the Trophy Rock? I've also heard good things about this. I am guessing with the raking, site prep and fertilizer my No Plow and Throw-N-Gro food plots will turn out nicely seeing how I have no cows on my lease and the only thing that will be eating it is hogs and deer, either one will fill up my freezer, but I am hoping to draw in a Big Buck. I have never had the opportunity to harvest a nice racked deer as I don't hunt for antlers, but for meat, but I am like everyone else in the retrospect that if I can raise my chances for seeing and harvesting a mature and nice racked buck I will. It will be nice to actually see what's coming around and be able to put somewhat of a pattern on the bucks I intend to shoot. I would like for my wife to be able to harvest a really decent buck as she has a bad back and is not able to sit in a stand for that long, so I will let her pick on a buck and see if she can make that old 30/30 sing. She can't see worth a darn, but for some reason she is deadly accurate with my old 30/30 I gave her, lol. Needless to say I hide the shells when I piss her off..., lol... Man I am excited, already can't wait cuz I know the bucks are there I just have to draw em in and keep em coming around....

I can't speak for the seed, but I will say that the whitetail and axis on our lease in Brady absolutely love the trophy rock we put out. There will be a wet ring around them due to all the constant activity.

I tried it in Tyler county last season around the 2nd week of Oct. I threw it out and mowed grass over the top of it to help hold moisture. Some of it came up, (picture below...but its not a good one), but it wasn't near as thick as where we actually turned soil, fertilized and planted a mix of elbon, winter wheat & peas.

Thanks rifleman, looks decent to me!!! How well did the deer seem to like it and was it a good aid in holding deer to your area?

I honestly couldn't tell you, I only hunted on that lease 4 or 5 days, but there were tracks all in it and places the hogs had rooted up. But for lasting through winter, that pic was taken in February.

Dang rifleman, that's not too shabby for February to still be up like that.

I'm guessing the main key to success of these products is proper prep and fertilization or at least that is what I can gather from the good and bad success. I believe I am gonna try both and just see which the deer like the most and which one sprouts the best, thanks guys,

I planted two plots in September. One we plowed with a disk first, the other we didn't. The plowed plot did great, the other, not so much. We did lime and fertilize both. Sorry I don;t have pictures.

Dozer, mulched, and trackhoe work. Fencelines, senderos, tanks. Let me know if I can help with any dirtwork or construction.

I'm in East tx/ Houston County. The soil is very sandy, not the typical east tx red clay. we have to clear the weeds and native vegetation to plant, so we do plow. I have scattered on top of the soil just before a good rain but do much better if we plow and rake. The only thing we can really grow are oats and turnips. I always try and plant late aug or early sept just before a good rain, fertilize appx 1 week later. have never added lime..If we can keep the hogs away, we usually can grow a good food plot..start with a soil test to find out how much fertilizer and lime are needed..you'll save time and money..

Plant in sept. esp. if you bow hunt.I use winter wheat\ oat \turnips mix hunt around crossplains coleman brownwood area.If you can any sail prep is better than none and almost and seed will come up with good ground contact and moisture but birds and turkey squirrel will getalot if not covered.

Yeah, I already have my soil prepped and ready to go. Still have one more lane to cut and prep though, but won't take but about 3-4hrs tops. I have 2 lanes already, but I have to cut another and will actually only be focused on my left and right lanes (2 lanes). I think the No Plow And Throw-N-Grow will do very well at my spot. I will be sure to take pics of it to show before/after progress and I'll let ya'll decide how well it looks, lol. Thanks fellas....
