a buddy and i decided to go to lake sulphur springs for the last hunt because we did pretty good last time it happened. Buddy didnt have any shells and i only had about 7 so we was gonna stop by walmart and grab some blackclouds so we left about twenty minutes early so we would have plenty of time, we get to walmart have the shells in hand get to the cash register and we couldnt buy shells til 8 oclock so we slept in the parking lot for 3 hours and only got a shoveler how sorry

Yea, I've had that happen a few times. We just tell them they are full of crap and to get a manager.

The Wal-mart employee did you guys wrong. I've bought shells there at all times of the night. Maybe the cash knew what you were up and decided to make you wait by tell you lies.

hooray for walmart nazi's!!!! you learn after the first few times to buy either A: extra boxes or, B: grab some on your way home from work. the latter of which usually happens on friday, and involves a liquor store.

Sucks they wouldnt sell to you but I've got to say it's pretty retarded for two duck hunters to wake up before a hunt and have 7 shells between them. The only time anyone ever shows up with no shells in a group with me is when they asked another guy the night before if they have extra shells they could bring them. The absolute only thing worse is showing up without a shotgun. I'd say shells are the #2 thing on the list that anyone needs to go duck hunting. The 3rd item whatever it may be is a distant third in importance.

Oh well lesson learned hopefully.

I'd actually argue that with a big enough group (3-4 hunters) shells are more important than guns. We hunted alot of areas in AR that had one box per person shell restrictions. You can always trade off guns, but if there aren't enough shells to go around, you're out of luck.

And I guarantee you there isn't a time of the year that I have less than 2-3 boxes of loose shells in the truck, somewhere.

Sprinkle a few commas and periods in there and I might be able to read it without retinal bleeding.

+1 up

I don't even duck hunt... well I pond jump about twice a year, and I probably have 3 boxes. Have everything you need BEFORE you leave to go hunting!

Arkansas has some backwardsass rules, but what would you really expect from such a backwardsass state. One box of shells, can't leave the ramp until everyone is lined up for a duckboat race, three duck limit, etc. $350 out of state license, I've never been and probably won't. If I really need a mallard that bad, I'll just goto Oklahoma. Mack's has a good catalog, though.

I dont' know why people do go to AR to kill ducks. Waste of time if you ask me. We don't want them. And I bet that most OOS'ers get a big goose egg if they do the on your own public land thing.

Oh, and that place with the 3 duck limit? It has a 15 shell limit.

yes i agree shells are more important! plus you could always throw the shells at the ducks, which is effective if you hit em in the face ;-) its harder and more expensive to throw a gun, just sayin

I don't think a hunting license is the #1 thing. Yes everyone should have a hunting license but if you forget it at home or in the truck it doesnt have to end your hunt. I've seen the GW give my dad a ride to his vehical twice over the years. I actaully think my dad plans it that way so he doesnt have to walk.

X2

If you have it, but forget it it's actually pretty simple to get the ticket dismissed. Got a buddy that seems to forget his at least once a year, and somehow he always picks the day the warden shows up too.

The liscense in Ark is less than 100 bucks. I will make a trip to arkansas every year Lord willing. Even if I don't fire a shot it will be worth it. When the mallards are thick over there it is completely uncompairable to anything we have in Texas. Put that together with the history, the greentimber, and the challenge...you will not find that expierence in Texas or Oklahoma.

Granted I can kill mallards in Texas and Oklahoma easier than in Arkansas and deal with less pressure but, their is just something about that experience. It's not just about killing ducks.

I wouldn't mind the shell limit or the 3 mallard limit in certain places over here for that matter. It results in less sky busting and being able to finish more ducks.

With that being said, it's not for everybody.

Tha makes sence. I figured it had to be something about the prestige of just "duck hunting in Arkansas." And you're right. Timber hunting is out of this world. I would trade one mallard in the timber for a guaranteed mallard limit somewhere else.

Nah, he always forgets it, the only time you notice is when the game warden asks.
