I know this is probably going to get twisted into something else pretty quick but we have 1 that has already chewed up several trees around our pond and has covered up the overflow culvert with mud and brush so it wont drain. I would rather just move it than shoot it. Any ideas I thought about a live trap but what kind of bait do I use. I am serious so any help would be appreciated.

Seriously, I've never had a chance to try to catch one. Probably the same as a coon.

Well, I was going to say diamonds but it's getting pretty silly. On topic.....you can still buy traps in feed stores. Try to find the 'slides' or the point where the beaver is going into the water to go to its lodge and place them there. They should be far enough underwater so that it will trap them and drown them. If that seems too harsh....stay up at night and stake out the area where they are destroying your trees. A load of buckshot should do the trick. DO NOT go near a beaver until you are sure it is dead. They gnaw through trees. Think about what they can do to you.

Body trap like this does a great job of breaking their neck when you put it in front of the over flow culvert. I have one at my house, but it's not quite big enough. A buddy of mine has a place in OK where the beavers do the same thing...he has caught soooo many by putting it in the culvert and it snaps their neck. Works really well! Don't know where you live, but Gander Mountain usually has a pretty good selection of traps in stock. http://www.ruralking.com/trap-body-330-bt-10-beaver.html

Live trapping seldom works on beaver. I would use a connibear trap and kill it before it tunnels into your dam. You have a potentially serious problem. Get rid of it asap.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Most of the people I know that have had beaver problems had to shoot them to get rid of them. The above suggestion about buckshot is correct as I heard a gov't. trapper speak on the subject once and he said they have very thick skulls so it takes a heavier shot to penetrate.
Rifles work but the potential for ricochet makes that a danger.
good luck.

Well I was thinking of trapping it live but sounds like it wouldn't work. I'll just give my 204 a try or put some buckshot in him. I know where his den is I will put the old propane torch to it and see if i can push him out. Are they a nocternal animal?

Trap it. Works for me. Or bait it and wait and shoot it
The beauty of the Second Ammendment is it won't be needed until they try and take it.

I have a similar problem and googled trapping beavers. Suggested bait was willow limbs with the bark peeled off. It also said live trapping is seldon successful. I'm planning to place a camera to find out what times he's active and then . Problem solved. Mine is a work related problem so I'm gonna do it on the clock. What a deal.

I looked into this a little while back. The info I found said that you should do your best to tear up the dam and then sit and wait just before dark. Supposedly they will start working to repair the damage right away and you can get a shot at them.
