Get the PSE Barracuda kit at Academy, a battery, spotlight and you are ready to go. We do it this cheap way except for the bow and shoot 2-300x a night on the lake. Nothing better.

Do you have alligator gar?

You can, we just did it at the dusk hours of evening. I would say it would be much easier in a river than a lake.

they change the regs on alligator gar to i think 1 per day so watch what you shoot.......

we used to walk the creek banks and shoot them during the hot summer days.......if you have the right set up i think night would work the best..

And when you think that you have aimed low enough, aim lower.

I usually bowfish cedar creek lake, my best day was 96, we use a boat to get to where we are going, then wade in knee deep water, I usually take 2 quivers with different points for shooting different fish, that is if time allows. I would recommend a good reel also. I shoot fiberglass arrows without fletching and I also take a tire knocker for taking care of the bigger fish.

I bowfished a lot several years ago, but not so much now. In recent years I might break out the bowfishing rig if I know I have a redneck fishing trip coming up and I need to stock up on some jugline bait. What I would like to try is bowfishing for Tilapia sometime like at Fairfield. They make for some good eating.

+1 Did the same thing. Found a old compound at a pawn shop and been shooting it ever since high school. I learned by walking a creek that comes off one of the lake spillways around here. Carp spawning time is AWESOME! My bow shoots right at 40lbs it works Fine.(for what I need it to do)

Gar are good as long as you eat them hot, if you wait to long they will be like chewing rubber. I have an old indian compound bow that like getting wet, its not the prettiest thing but get the job done and thats all I care about, plus having a good time.

Yea I Bowfish ALOT!!!! As long as you have a boat an lights an decks your good to go. The only time they use lights are at night time to light up the water so you can see where there bedded down at. But yes you can bowfish during the day! Bout the middle of febuary til bout summer is the BEST TIME... But you can do it during the summer. I don it alot in the trinity. Lavon, Ray Roberts, Red River Cedar creek ( on feet tho ) an richland chambers. Where are you located? An i use a old hoyt with a slotted retriever pro with carbon fiber arrow with muzzy tips. (Muzzy tips are the best) an a bottle is hooked up at all times uncase i find a monster!

I live on cedar creek an bowfish it an the biggest ive prolly shot has been only like 45pds.... 96 is real good for this lake... Trinity is full of monsters when the water is out of the banks its best for the big ones. Me an a buddy shot 8 Aligator Gar last year (trintiy) in it an they were all over 175 an the biggest was weighed at 223pds.

Yes right now is the best time for the carp! An you do need to find a bow your comfortable with pulling back alot... My hoyt is set at 60pds but im young. An i dont do much walking around unless im in cedar creek.

If your john boat is atleast 4ft wide at the front base your have a hell of a bowfishing boat! Very stable boat to stand in. If under 4ft in the front base than just dont do alot of moving cause it will flip! haha ive done it. funny stuff!

If you bought all of it for 100$ Well if they were complete arrows with muzzy tips. Those are like 16$each thats 65$ right there! Or if you built them yourself the tips are like 8$ each. so you figure 35$ for just tips. An them arrows that came with the reel are complete then those are bout 12$ each. So if you ask me yes you got a good deal. Is the reel Slotted????

Does your reel look like this were the string comes out of the side of the reel that can hook up to a bottle?

Be VERY CAREFUL with those spools. I have seen them get knotted up when the string get everywhere an the string will lock up an not come off the spool witch will jerk the arrow right back around at you. An alot of the times you dont have time to get out of the way of it. Imagine one of those muzzy tips stickin in you. you cant pull it out with the reverse barbs unless the tip is loose. So they would have to cut puncture point wider to get the arrow out. That would not be good. I had a buddy that that happened to. I would strongly suggest one or the other.... Here are the two links.

You can buy this one below for 65$ i think. But i would ask the saler bout the slotted reels they are better because when you shoot a monster it will take all your sting out an pull the bottle off the bow an it will be like a jug line with him on it an you can track him an shot him again till he dies.

These are good. it has a price on it.
