i remember seeing on a show once that all you have to do is rub the bottom side on a hard surface that has an edge.
The beauty of the Second Ammendment is it won't be needed until they try and take it.

You can also just kinda work the hide back and forth and it will loosen it up but its not gonna be a very fast process that way lol

I have the same problem, I used Krowtann on mine and there really hard, but I have also heard from my taxidermist that rubbing it on the corner of a old desk and it will soften up.

Neats foot oil is a godsend for softening!
That and a little elbow grease will get you on going.

i don't know this to be true, but I am currently tanning one and read that you need to let the hide and oil sit out in the sun, then rub it in. The hide will absorb the oil and keep it pliable.

i think the reason its getting hard is because you have to play with it a little every day to keep it soft....
in tanneries they put the hides into large tumblers to dry....the tumblers keep the hide moving as they dry thus making a soft tan....
try and break it over the back of a chair or edge of a table

if you are not near denton, can you send them via the mail and do you just pack them in dry ice or freezer packs...
my axis pelt is in the freezer still
i live in austin area, but the only things i have seen down here are over $100 for tanning a hide
Stuff my dad said in the deer blind
"I can dive deeper and come up drier" "did you do that?"
