First off there was a ton of birds today on the Katy prairie. But, I could not get any to commit into the spread. They were call/mojo/decoy shy. I turned off the mojo after the first group did a complete 180. That didn't work. Next group came in and i hit the calls..immediately they flared. Next time I didn't call and they came a little close but then flared again. I took some decoys out and they still flared. Added a little more..flared again. It's the last week of the season boys and you better be on your game to get them down. I got owned today! And on top of all that...my dog decides to go and get her first blast from a skunk right in the face! $50 at Petsmart for their "de-skunk" treatment... ...didn't work at all!! Also, I live in a single bedroom apartment so I have no place so put her so i'm just going to febreze her every 5 minutes. Right now my eyes are watering, my nose is itching and i feel like i have to But, my boy Favre did put it to the Cowboys today!

I was sympathetic until I read that last sentence.

Ducks are against me. They have proven this the past two weekends. I sure hope the last weekend is good, Lord knows it could not be worse. And, I am a huge Cowboys fan, they just showed no heart today. Favre and the Vikings owned them.

I got skunked one time when I was a kid. My mom made me soak in tomato juice for like 2 hours. It helped.

I've heard of bathing in tomato juice but never done it myself so don't know if it really works.

Try one group of decoys on one side and 2 on other side of pond (if small) and hunt by the small group. We have had great success with this tactic.
Works also if you are doing 2 group spred on same side.

Your dog wasn't the only one getting skunked. Oh well maybe the Boys can do it next year and get that ring.

DUAggie I was unloading gear from my bass boat late at night in the driveway and my lab was hanging out with me. Heard a yelp and my dog came running to the garage, he took a blast to the face also. I researched online and the peroxide/baking soda/dish soap worked, I did have to wash him 3 times to get the smell off him. Good luck.
Jager is like liquid xanax. Wake up looking like you fell in a tiger exhibit and crawled through a leech filled swamp to get out.

Root against the Cowboys and God will punish you. X2 20 years ago I had the same thing happen to two of my dogs when they cornered a skunk late at night in the back yard and both took multiple shots to the head and body. Woke up to that wonderful fragrance and went out to investigate what all the comotion was about only to find our pugs face literally dripping and he still wanted more Lab was in the opposite corner of the yard rolling on the ground. Tried everything and nothing seemed to get the smell out. Swam them both everyday for a week and it seemed to help. Good luck with all that.

I appreciate all of the help.. i tried the mixture lastn ight and it made a world of difference. The smell is not completely gone, but at least it's now bearable. Also to keep it out of her eyes i actually took an old toothbrush and used that to massage into the areas close to her eyes.
I hope you never have a dog get skunked because it is ridiculous! But, i think as hunters out in the woods it's almost inevitable.. Remember the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap mixture if it does ever happen tho.
