i am wanting to build some tripod style deer feeders. i have seen some top pieces made out of flat plate with 3 pieces of square tubing welded to the plate 5" or 6" long then you can slide a longer piece of square tubing inside or over the piece welded to the top plate for the legs. has anyone ever built anything like this and if so what size tubing did you use and what size flat plate did you use and what angle did you weld on to the plate.

I stick to the 5 inch round pvc pipe strapped to a tree. I can make a bunch of those compared to the price of one feeder.

Well, what I mean by that, sir, is... if you was to put me and this here sniper rifle anywhere up to and including one mile of Adolf Hitler with a clear line of sight, sir... pack your bags, fellas, war's over. Amen.--SPR[image]

I have built 3 feeders exactly as you have said. I used 1/4 plate and I welded 3/4 square tubing to the plate at a 40 degree angle, then I slide 1" square tubing over the 3/4" and has worked great for 4 years. I welded one of the legs to the plate and installed a winch to the leg and a pulley to the plate.

You can make all tubing top with a center cross peice,Make it 2x2 square (11ft,), 4-6"(2ft) stubs at 20* off points and that clears barrle quicker and you save on leg length,by using lesser degree on angle,You can crank barrle carrier higher in nest=(shorter legs). From standard lengths (20@24ft) you save enough to add 4th leg.. On cranks ,Id use a come along/with pull strap at 6 ft slower but might save several $thou.,having hand bones screwed together. If hand crank slips, its faster than snake on knuckles.

bowandarrow on the 1/4" plate what was your overall size of this plate? how long and how wide and did you weld one stub leg in the center on the edge of the plate and the other 2 stub legs in the corners?

jj,

we use a cordless 18 volt drill with a socket on it to raise and lower our feeders. Works pretty good and saves the wrist.

Go to
http://www.moultriefeeders.com/productdetail.aspx?id=10003

The sell them at Bass pro Shop and Accadamy.

Then go and get you some Galvinsed Tubing at home depot...the same tubing used for putting up a chain linked fence.
Come in 8-10 feet long

The slide perfectly over the brackets

You can use these with 50 gallon drums.

They are TOUGH brackets

the plate was 12" square, and I spaced out the stub legs equally, make sure you have enough room for the pulley in the center of the plate

did you put 3 legs or 4 legs on yours? alot of them that i have seen had a stub leg welded on the edge of the plate but centered and the other 2 stub legs were centered on the corners in the back. is this how you did yours?

I used three legs, but 4 legs would work. I welded the stubbs like you said. I will try to find a photo of the feeders
