I have 14 guns and 8 of them will never be sold. The other 6 are fair game.

Yeah right. Dylan loves your .243.
And he made a damn fine shot with it
Steyr means junk in German.
LMAO, that is a sweet gun.

I don't have any. Hunt with a spear here.
I have one that I know nothing about. It was my great grandads I think. Side by Side 16 gauge double hammer/trigger from Germany. I've tried researching it but never come up with anything. Nice engraving on it of ducks, fox, rabbits.
txduckmanI collect multi-barreled firearms, and most of my collection is of German make. I may be able to help you with some info on your German 16 ga double shotgun.
If you coulf take the barrels off the action and take cloeup pictures of the markings on the bottom of the flats of the barrel set under the chambers, and any wording stamped or engraved on the barrels, both top, and under the forearm. The length of the barrels, and a description of the how the barrels lock-up to the action. A good group of digital pictures of the whole shotgun, and from all sides.
I have quite a lot of info in my head for this type of firarm, and in some cases if you really don't know much about the gun, it may not be safe to use with 2 3/4" shells, or if Damaskus barrels with smokeless powder.
Most German made shotguns with exposed hammers were made for the shot 16 ga shells, and choked extra tight or SUPER FULL, and would not be well to use slugs in it. I'm sure your grandfather used the shotgun with American over the counter ammo, but that doesn't mean it is safe to do so.
I see your in tour stats you have the word "BigD" If that means Dallas, then I'm not too far away, and could meet you at one of the firing ranges, or other, and look the old gun over. Though the gun was brought from Germany, I assume from WWII, doesn't mean it is German made! Most likely it is but it also could have been made almost any place!
If you could post some pictures to me, maybe I can help identify your shotgun for you! My E-mail address is DUGABOY1@aol.com

What has German go to do with Steyr????
.................. let me outa here!
Steyr Mannlichers are fine rifles, and those cold hammer forged barrels are accurate as hell, especially chambered for 243 Win. I have a predecessor of the Steyr Mannlicher, which is even better,an MCA Mannlicher Shoenauer 243 Win rifle, but sadly they are no longer made. My Mannlicher rifle will print 3/4" groups all day long at 100 yds after haveing well over 5000 rounds of hot handloads pushed through the barrel. I don't think you can wear out a Steyr barrel.
..............Junk, yeh right! If nobody wants you Steyr I know where it can find a good home!

Thanks! I'll try and get some pics of it next week. Who knows when it was shot last. Only issue is someone put a rubber kickpad on it but looks 50 years old or more. When I was a kid I found it in an old US Army soft case in the closet. I don't know if the case was my dads from guard days or my grandad brought it back from the war and took the gun. My great grandad was full blood german though so it could have been his or his dads. Someone also made it home with a german dagger and sheath from the war that is pretty cool.

He's probably kidding about the Steyr comment since they are made in Austria. I shoot a Steyr Mannlicher 30.06 for deer.

My 1965 Winchester 94 (killed first deer with it) was my dads gun.
My grandfathers Winchester model 97
These two will never be sold, I will just pass on to my nephews.
All the rest could go if the price is right.

Oddly I only have a few that are "mine". I use them as tools too, My son has a beauty that he got from his grandfather, but grampa insisted that he hunt with it...
I have my first 22 I'd sell it last, my Sig would be next to last, right behind my wife, er, uhmm, my wife's sig I mean...
I trade AR's every few months or years, and hunting guns I tend to be rough on.. so noboby would want my old deer rifles... they don't shoot straight anyway...

I have a few with some value. I have a small collection of Colt 1877 DA revolvers, a few old dbl bbl shotguns, and a few US Government marked 1911A1's. My "crown jewel" is a set that was my great grandfathers "arsenal" when he was a RR detective, a Colt Thunderer and a Parker 10-guage, with the RR issued holster and saddle scabbard. These have RR markings and I'm sure their worth something to someone. These weren't in the family, because they were RR property and not passed down. My dad and I had to find these using Great Grand-Dad's documents and RR records. I'm sure we paid way more than they were actually worth but it's cool that they're in the family.
edited to add: The rest are all shooters and are treated like a nice tool set. Used, not abused, and never loaned out.

I have only traded one I regret, a Styer Mannlicher .222 with the double set trigger and twisted barrel. It was a beautiful gun, but thinking back on it, it never really grouped that well, must have been why I traded it.

I'm friends with a guy that has quite a collection. He has 2 sons that were raised in the city and care nothing about hunting or shooting- more occupied with technology and such. He told me once that he didn't know what he was going to do with them- that he felt sure if he died and passed them on the boys would just sell them for cash since they mean nothing to them. Said he was thinking of giving some of his to his close friends that enjoyed them for what they were. Sad.

All my guns are meat on the table or varmint on his back tools. Not a safe queen in the bunch. I would trade them but never sale them. I tend to keep things that are paid for. The value in my guns are what they have done not what they are.

GOt an old L.C. Smith 16 GA side by side Field Grade from my grandad. Also got a Winchester .22 pump with the octagon barrell over 100 years old. I would consider selling the .22 or even the 16 Ga If the price was right I guess. Don't want to but have a few other guns I would like to get that I could Shoot. On second thought I would only sell the .22 if the price was right, just don't know how much it's worth. Anybody got an internet link for gun prices.
