They are fun to shoot prarie dogs with!! A friend of mine had a ruger that was awesome only downfall is that the barrel was toast after about 300 or so rds. May have just been a 1 time deal. They are very accurate and fun!! Hope you get it

You wouldnt... I guess maybe ask somebody like a gunsmith. I wouldnt know personally without shooting it. His was a tack driver but after a while it was sketchy about hiting a pie plate at 75 yds.

Even with hot hand loads you should get more life than that out of a barrel. The problem is most likely copper fouling. Sweets and JB compound should bring it back to life.

I've had mine over a year and I still haven't put 40 rounds through it and it rides with me daily. Love that 204!

I've got a Remington 700 LVSF in .204 ruger and I love it. Probably put a little over 100 rounds through it. Several animals taken with it. Consistently shoots a dime size group.

It's a 4000 FPS round. You could get the barrel too hot to touch before you knew it and erode the throat in less than 300 rounds. That was the big knock on the 220 Swift when it came out - a barrel burner.

I hope thats not the case I did purchase it. If it was burned out I could replce the barrell though correct? It is a really clean gun has the Simmons scope and leupold rings and mount.

4000 fps is smoking It might be shot out, but I'd give the Sweets and JB a try before I wrote it off.

Not necessarily. It's a 4000 FPS round. You could get the barrel too hot to touch before you knew it and erode the throat in less than 300 rounds. That was the big knock on the 220 Swift when it came out - a barrel burner. You could get almost any rifle too hot and burn the barrel up prematurely. I have been shooting Pdogs with the 204 ruger for a couple years now. I shoot em about 20 times (i have temp strips on my varmit guns) and set em aside to cool. I have 2500 rounds down the pipe of one of em and it still shoots 1/4moa! It may burn out today but I feel I will get 4000+ out of it.

Had a nice Remington VLS in 204 and wish I never owned it. It shot well but I had to buy new cleaning rods, jags, patches, powder funnels, and bore guides as these same things for a 22 caliber will not work. Those little bullets were hard for my big old hands to mess with. If the wind was blowing over 5mph accuracy at anything over 150 yds was difficult. To me there are simply better choices.

If the wind was blowing over 5mph accuracy at anything over 150 yds was difficult. My experince withthe 204 when compared to other varmit calibers is quite different. When shooting Hornady 40gr vmax bullets the 204 more than holds its own against other popular varmit calibers. I only listed calibers with readily available factory ammo. This data is based off a 10mph cross wind. CALIBER...........BULLET WEIGHT...........DRIFT INCHES @ 400yds 204 ruger.............32gr.......................19.9" 204 ruger.............40gr.......................15.6" 22-250................55gr.......................16.7" 223...................55gr.......................20.4" 220 swift.............55gr.......................16.7" I have all but one of these calibers and enjoy vamit shooting with all of them.

Well I took it out and shot it today and it shot 3 times at about 150 ft really tight so I think it's ok. I was told this week by a friend that if it was burned out that the bullets would tumble but they didn't

If someone wants to get rid of a .204 with a 300 round burned out barrel, I'd like a chance to buy it.
