I saw a small example of this powder the other day at Bass Pro. Stuff looked more like kitty litter than a muzzleloader powder! Has anyone used this powder? How did it work? Is the SHOCKEY GOLD better than the regular stuff?

i did not care for the shockey gold. i like rs or 777 depends on which rifle i am shooting. have not used the american powder so have no first hand knowledge.

I wasn't too impressed with shockey gold either. american pioneer was decent, but would develop a nasty crud ring. Try blackhorn 209, nothing burns hotter, cleaner, faster, and consistent.

If you want to try something that can be impressive (and you have the right setup) try some Blackhorn 209. www.blackhorn209.com It is pricey so make sure you read thoroughly about it at their site to see if it will work for your setup. This stuff may change ML shooting.

May have to try that powder. I can't get more than a 4 or 5 shots without having to clean my Muzzy. I also hunt in cold weather and the spit patches tend to freeze between shots.

I also may need ot try it, but only after I'm done w/ the 2lbs of loose 777. I can't think of how long it will take me to burn thru this much powder either. They'll probably have something else that is EVEN better by then. I run a spit patch between shots. I can barely get a second sabot down the barrel after the first shot and was a cleaned barrel. I can't imagine getting 4-5 shots seated let alone the 3rd in mine.
