Assume $1500 inclusive Management Deer 2 day hunt. The guide is good and gets you a deer that meets your expectations. How much do you tip? What is standard - 15% for good service, 20% for great service or 5% for bad service?

Thanks

Range is normally 10% to 20%. If bad service, then nothing! If the food is bad then just leave asap! lol

my sons hunt was a black buck WT and a ram and I tipped 200. I also shot a buffalo and tipped 150 and 100 for my elk.

Whats the tip for? Isnt he making 1500 for a the deer hunt. I understand waiters getting tipped. Ive heard you tip outfitters but why? So the price they tell you does not include service.

You used the word "inclusive"... if they used it I'd say no tip.
IMO $1500 for a 2 day management hunt is pretty expensive to start with.

If someone went out of their way and made it a GREAT experiance I'd gladly tip.

That is why I am asking...My wife always says I tip too much...

On a recent $2000 management hunt my son and I had three people assigned to us for 48 hours and we had great success at a great hi fence ranch. We took a 130 class management buck and a cow elk. I tipped $300 for the guide, $200 for the Cook, and $100 for the other staff person.

Total for the hunt, food, and cleaning services at a 5 star quality facility $2000 + $600 in tips. Looking back I was wondering if I tipped too much...I was very pleased with everything and probably would do the same again....

Sounds like the recommendation is No Tip to However much you like...So I guess there is no standard or rule....

The guide is probably not the person that is getting the $1500. He is the low man on the totem pole and can probably use all the help he can get.

I'm with your wife on this one. Would have tipped no more than $300 on a $2k hunt.
BTW... if you ever book one of my hunts, forget I said this. smile

From an Outfitter/Guide perspective I'd have to say that tips are really important. Here's why....... Most Outfitters don't own the properties that they hunt. We work really hard to negotiate prices with our landowners that enable us to offer hunts at reasonable and competetive prices. The lion's share of the money goes to the landowner and to pay for the expenses such as meals and lodging. Whatever is left over usually amounts to a decent daily wage. A good tip is a real motivator for a guide/outfitter to go the extra mile and put forth whatever extra effort may be required for a hunter to have a great experience. I think the amount of the tip should reflect the effort that the guide/outfitter put out.

Only tip if you feel the quide deserved it. Most of the time the outfitter/ guide are one and the same.
Yes they pay the landowner for access, but that is part of their choosing their profession.

I do tip, if warranted, but can see how some guys would not.
Just my opinion

there are alot of different things said about this topic. i have never been on a guided hunt.i do think that when you get the price of the hunt it sounds like everyone is making out with good money. let me assure you this is not always the case. i guide and i will tell you that each outfitters pays differently to his guides and to his land owner. i try to stay away from the politics of it, but i have guided for elk and been paid 1500 for a five day hunt. i have also been paid 250 for a 4 day trophy aoudad and mulie hunt.i dont expect a tip but it is nice.it tells me that i did a good job ansometimes more. if you book a hunt and you enjoy yourself and it is everything that you expected then tip. if you didnt like something and tried to consult the outfitter and guides and they did nothing then dont. i know it is a touchy situation but trust how you feel on the hunt and dont worry to much about it. enjoy yourself you paid enough for that.just set a little aside in case you are pleased.

Its funny that this came up. I have recived one tip in 5 years of providing excellent hunts. This is with excellent sucess rates and at one of the fairest packages. an ex relative gets tips all the time for half the service and a quarter of the sucess rate. I charge what I charge so tips are not expected but I was very supprised that this was the case. I guess i need to triple my prices and cut my services so ill get more money! LOL!

I have never heard of anyone not tipping the guide unless they received bad service.

The more I thought about it...the answer is there is no answer. When we go on a $7000 48 hour Tuna run, we tip the Captain $400 and the 1st mate $100 if we are really on fish. If we are not then we tip $200 and $25. So the tip is not relatively to what you pay for the hunt.

Seems more like the Guide Tips standard are:

$0.00 for bad service
$100 for good service
$200.00+ great service

Thanks
