New to the area and I'm trying to find some year-round land to hunt deer, hogs, turkey, fowl, etc. I don't have a lot of cash but have something else to offer. I was born and raised in northeast Iowa. My father runs a farm up there still and I have lots of private and public land to deer hunt if your interested in some large northern whitetail. Season is 1st-3rd week in December, shotgun only, drive-hunt style. My current hunting party has 4-6 guys in it any given day, all local and all know the area very well. All you'd need is an out-of-state lisence and deer tag and I'd be more than happy to take a guest or two along next year in exchange for some land to hunt around here. Wow, no takers yet. I must say I'm a bit surprised. Access to some of the countries prime big bodied bucks (FYI, largest buck shot on record was 40 minutes from my hunting ground. See article below), excellent ring-neck pheasant... The ground is located in plots running between the Cedar River by Waterloo, all the way through the Upper Iowa River. Most of the local farm hunting ground is overgrown cattle pastures where they tend to bed down for the winter. I think an out-of-state lisence runs under $500 for that and tag. Plane ticket and hotel is still cheaper than a lease and I'm sure you won't be disappointed by the hunt or the size of the deer. I'm flexible and would really just like to find a somewhat local spot around here to do a little hunting. Mainly hog but deer and turkey would be real nice too.

Yeah, I kinda figured that as much. Just wanted to try and get things lined up before it was too late. I hate doing things last minute. I know in Iowa, you have to have your name submitted for their out-of-stat lottery by the end of June, I think, for Deer season. I really only have enough room for me and maybe 2 others so I was going to do it first come, first serve.

I hunt Iowa every year. The buck tags are done by drawing in the spring and cost around 350. Plus hunting license and habitat fee it's around 500. If Hawkeye can get landowners buck tags which cost around 12 bucks you can get all set up with a doe tag for 350 total. As you know every T.V. show hunter is applying for a Iowa buck tag. I think they only give out around 350 per year to out of staters. It is different than hunting in TX but fun having a 160 class or better jumping up right in front of you and trying to kill it on a dead run with a shotgun! Hope it works out for ya'll. Oh you also move up in the lottery if you don't get drawn this year.

Application dates start in May and end in June. You can reapply starting in July through the end of the season (January of the following year is the last season). I'm not sure where you got your numbers from, Iowa's Non-resident any gun quota for 2009 was 6,000 permits. There's another 4,500 done on a doe only special season. (January) From '08's numbers, you had better than a 1 in 2 chance of getting tags. (6,000 available, 11,000 applied reg season) The total license is around $500 for either sex gun, that's correct.
$500 + plane ticket isn't too bad to hunt north midwest whitetail. Just trying to offer something different. And yes, I have landowner privelidges. I grew up there and my family still lives in north east Iowa.
