Going to get into a AR 308 platform. Just looking for any input/expertise/experience with the Rem R-25, DPMS LR308 classic or a RRA version. I have done a lot of reading and realize that the same company owns Rem and DPMS now. I have also read that the R25 has some issues. You can only read so much and I fear I wont be able to hands on let these eat before I am too itchy to buy one. Anything is much appreciated.....Thanks in advance

I had an R-25. It had some issues ejecting and would stove pipe unless you kept it Really Clean. I mean, like clean it after every 15-20 rounds. I want to get either a DPMS or a RRA but haven't yet so can't say anything about them.

Thanks. I am leaning DPMS but really need more dope. Hate to get in something for that kind of money and realize it was a mistake.

I havnt had the single problem out of my R-25 yet, and yes it is made by DPMS even the magazine floorplate and other parts have there markings, I think alot of the issues with it derive form the tighter tolerances from the coating they use.
I know on mine I sanded the coating down on all mating surfaces where the upper and lower meet.
Now do some shopping because I purchased mine form academy and two days later walked into my gunshop and saw a 308LR (same gun) for almost 200 cheaper and it came with 2-20rd magazines not 1-4rd.
To me it boils down to preferance, there the same gun although DPMS you have more barrel choices I like the fact there 18" model is alot heavyer barrel contour than the 20" used on the R-25 although Im switching to a HB 24" sooon so it doesnt matter for me.

Great dope. I appreciate it. I am "leaning" although just slightly to the LR308 classic for the reasons you listed. Mags, price etc. Thanks a bunch.

I got myself a RRA 308 about year and a half ago and have not had a single problem with it. It can shoot better than me! I have the 16" barrel model with a Millett DMS scope and can keep my groups under 1.5" at 100 yards. I like the fact that it takes FAL magazines I find that the metric one's work best.

Doing a lot of research now and it seems the opinions are DPMS and Rock River are about a coin toss with the R25 behind. Thanks

Let me ask another one. What has been you fellas experience with muzzle rise on these. For instance, if scoped, not holo, if in deer stand where rest is available, a group of hogs appears, can you hold on down range and get multi on target rounds out. Im not talking scatter gunnin, I mean 1st target obviously but then stay on and track others without then thing rising so bad its impossible ??

My RRA is pretty barrel heavy and I have a phantom flash suppressor that is also kind of large. I did notice with the factory car stock that it would jump around in my shoulder, I put a Mag Pul crt on it and that sloved my problem! When I first got it I tried to shoot it like I shot my M16 back in my younger days with nose on the charging handle! This is a NO NO, keep your nose off the charging handle on the 308.
I have took multi shots at the wild porkers and have had good results, I use 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips in my loads.

Thanks. I was thinking of the solid A2 type stock instead of a CAR. Also looking at 18 or 20 in barrel as opposed to 16. Id just really like to be able to bear down and let it eat without jumping. I have 2 other 308 bolts that I can watch what I hit but one at a time maybe 2. Thanks for the input. It all helps me.

Murphscout: Don't mean to talk you out of a AR10 308. I want to get one soon but I have fallen in love with my 6.8 SPC. Very similar ballistics to a 308 (energy and velocity). I purchased the upper recently for deer. Very little muzzle movement. I can stay on target after 1st shot. I did a great deal of research before my purchase and determined that accuracy with a 16 inch barrel was extremely efficient for whitetail size animals at long range. Also lets me take vital shots on hogs versus a behind the earshot with my 223. I like the fact that I can use my lower for my 223 as well for varmints which I find that the 308 is a bit to much.

No problem Vine. All info is good info. At one time I had a mini 14 with 16in that was not real accurate. Want to get into something accurate with some thump. Do you find the 6.8 ammo hard to come by ? I am not and dont have time to be a reloader. Is it $ comparable to 308 ? The ammo I am speaking of. I am total neophyte in the AR realm so all is welcome.

I have found that 6.8 SPC is around $25-$27 a box (20). It's a extremely accurate round that was initially designed for the military. Designed for the intention to shoot out of a 16 inch barrel and extremely accurate out to 500 yards. a lot of similarities with the 308 but less recoil. I see a lot of guys stay away from more expensive ammo but only shoot their gun a few times a year, make no sense to me but if your plinking away.... well it can get expensive. Something to think about. What I found interesting is the versatility of the AR 15 lower. It can shoot 223, 6.8 SPC and 450. The AR10 lower can shoot 243, 308 and 338. I'm probably missed a caliber or two. I have recently started hunting with the AR format and love it. I like the accuracy and ability to get an immediate second shot. Lots of fun for just plain shooting. Good luck on your journey.
I saw you ask about a R25. I have the R15 and have nothing but great things to say about the gun, Fit, form and function have been wonderful. I like the camo finish.

Once again I appreciate you taking the time. Initially I was drawn to the R25 but read a ton of stuff crushing it, so I migrated. The 6.8 is very intriguing and the ability to move back and forth to the 223 is appealing as well. I have a Rem R5 in 308 that I do my long range fun with so dont need somethng that I can reach out too far with. Being able to use a 338 peaks my interest but not so much as to be a make/break deal. Wont be doing a lot of plinking with this as I have a 22mag for that. With a couple bolt guns in 308 I was thinking of economies of scale/simplicity in acquiring ammo I could use in all three. You have stimulated me into doing some digging on 6.8 though. Agan I thank you for the time
