I got a v-sharp for Christmas and love it. Sharpened everything in the house yesterday.

I can use a wet rock but I'm slow with it. Because of that, stuff seemed to stay dull. I don't have the patience to mess with it very often. The v-sharp is fast and I'm very impressed with the edge it puts on.

I HAD to learn when I worked in a slaughter house in my youth. Of course, I had good teachers too.

Well, it's understood that we are talking about an edge that will cut the hair off your arm, not just sharp. And yes, it IS that hard.

I would prefer an edge that's sharp enough to cut a couple of inches ahead of the blade.

You didnt miss nothing hoss 1962, nobody should have to use anything to sharpen a knife. Maybe the people that raised them should taught them how to do it, if they even knew how.

When I was a youngun I was taught how to sharpen a knife with a stone. There wasn't anything like what they have today, it didn't exist then. But I realize today is a different day and I will shut up.

Hey , if you dont know how, I would be willing to teach anybody to do it. I always thought that was part of growing up. But then, I have never lived in a city either.

I can make the hair fly off your arm or wherever, no le hace. We might even have a drink of Jim Beam also.

I'm not knocking anyone that was raised different from me, it just seems like if you carry a knife you should know how to sharpen it.

I'd love to have someone teach me. It is a skill that I would like to start passing down in my family.

moderno perhaps you have some physical skills that many lack. Perhaps finer muscle control that allows you to lay the blade against the stone more consistently than most can. I grew up, also, when the only sharpeners were a flat stone, and my BIL at the time could sharpen a blade to where it would cut hair and took a great deal of time showing me how to do it, but I could never get the results he did, even tho I was highly motivated. I've worked with a couple of other guys since then who also showed me how they did it, and I just couldn't get it. Apparently, a lot of other people are the same way -- I know these guys had people coming to them all the time to get them to sharpen their knives as they couldn't do it.

I waas in Bass Pro Shop many years ago and had them sharpen my pocket knife on their wheel. It was super fast and super sharp so I ask him where I could buy the wheels. He kindly gave me the info and that was the last sharpener I ever bought. It is by far the fastest and best edge ever. I have sharpened literally thousands of knives on it and it still works great. I am the only guy that sharpens knives on our lease. It is like using a stone only hundreds of times faster. It took me a short time to figure out the proper angle but now I just look at what type of blade and adjust my angle from there. Best sharpener by far, and yes I used to use a stone and leather to get fine honed edges but not anymore.

NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!! Step away from the stone grinder Postoak. These are cardboard wheels and are alot more forgiving than a stone wheel. The right wheel has grit on it and the left wheel uses jewlers rouge to get a super fine and uniform edge.
I bought this about 12-15 years ago, the man has passed but his wife and daughter kept the business going. Her name is Georgia, super sweet lady. She actually answers the phone. Their websight is www.razorknife.com . I talked to her today and she says she is taking her first vacation since her husband passed away, but her daughter will be checking her messages.
And no I don't work for these folks, they live in Missouri. I had visited with her husband when I originally bought mine.
Good luck and let me know how you like it.

Not very expensive, either! Hell, cheaper than a Spyderco Sharpmaker.

The link you gave says they start at $49.50. I always assumed a bench grinder would be in the hundreds of dollars.

Bench grinders can be bought pretty cheap, with both you would be in for less than $100.00.
I paid 39.99 way back when.

You use just a standard bench grinder, right?
Just remove the grinder that it comes with, and install these cardboard wheels, is that correct ?

Once the knife becomes dull, do you then touch up the blade on a stone or a steel when it's needed ?
Or do you have to touch it up back on the wheel ?

Standard bench grinder is correct. When I sharpen one of my hunting knifes it usually will clean at least 3 deer Or 1.5 hogs, they are pretty tough on a knife, depends on the knife. So I usually just resharpen when I get home, if I needed to touch up an edge in the field it would be with a leather strop.
