Oh do I miss my quad. I hope the bastages that took it come to no good end.
I had to pass on the biggest boar I've seen at my feeders. My blind/feeder set up is innaccessible by truck and this guy was sooo big there would have been no chance of me even dragging him away from the feeder, much less the 400 yards to my 4x4.
Arrrrrrr...........
Trading off firearms to replace the quad doesn't seem to be too succesful either. So I've seen these harnesses you can wear to drag deer out of heavy cover. I am wondering if I tied one off to, say a hard plastic toboggan, if I could reasonably pull 200 Lbs or more. I'm thinking that should slide right over grass and dirt, and my section is pretty level. I'm a good sized guy who could definitely lean into it.
I just hate the thought of having that nasty old boar right in my crosshairs and doing nothing but watching him vacuum up corn.

not that I would ever suggest or do such a thing, but several others on here have suggestes a "properly" placed shot would be mortal, but allow the boar to run a suitable distance away before expiring...

It's still "we the people", right?

Isn't that what friends are for. Call all your buddies after you shoot it and get them to drag it out.

I have yet to ever see one during the day, either on camera or while I'm out stalking around. they usually hit the feeder between 10PM and 4AM. Lease rules are immediate family only. SUCKS, but I knew it going in. As far as making a shot that would allow a hog to travel a bit, that would be great except for the fact that it would probably not head in the direction of my truck, which would only make it harder to recover. I have no qualms about droppping a hog and leaving it. But I try my best to get that animal, whether I eat the meat or I donate it to an organization like PORKIES. But that sucker would have stunk up my feeder for Lord knows how long.......

You can bait an area that is more accessible to your truck.

We use a garden cart for retrieving game and by my self I had a heck of a time loading a 150ish pound buck into on my own and I'm not a small guy. Dead weight is dead weight for a reason but it does make it possible to move the animal once you get it to the cart.

Dead weight is dead weight for a reason Amen brother. The buck I took Veteran's Day morning almost left me lying next to him. I forgot my hitch mounted game carrier. First time I've ever cursed my truck for the 6" lift kit I put into it. I wasn't sure what was going to happen first. The veins in my neck exploding or just feeling an aorta tear in half!!

you could gut it and quarter it... I know cutting up a hog isnt everyone's favorite task but thats how I used to get elk out when I lived in Montana. I probably would have shot it and then tried to figure out what to do with it haha.

shoulda shot it +1, put it in game bags to keep it clean and then hoof it out. may have to make a few trips. with good game bags, you can even drag them if it isn't too rocky.

I agree quarter and carry. I have done it with elk and mule deer out west, its alot of work but we usually did not have roads near and definetly no feeders to hunt over.

Shoot it-leave it. The coyotes and other virmin will make short work of it. If your goal is a big one. You should be hunting with a buddy and two of you could haul him outta there
