Am I wasting my time doing this? One place I have for calling is very dense with brush. I can see maybe 50 yds.

Works good. I would rather have a shotgun

I would use a shotgun as well and there is nothing wrong with calling that area

Just try to find an open spot so you can see, and like the other guy's said you might want to use a shotgun. If you have pigs in the area, you might want to try the pig in distress call

no problem with that, ive killed yotes and other critters very close like that. 50yrds is plenty of viewin space. and a shot gun is not a bad idea. u could use a turkey call, ive had some successful yote hunts with that lol!

I use a shotgun as well and keep a backup side arm for comfort...

Well I went a head and tried it in late evening. I was sitting at the top of a ravine. I could see a strip about 50 yds long x 25 yds or so wide going down the ravine. I used the baby cottontail distress tape I had. Called in an owl and hawk. Just about to give up, I turned the tape off and heard something running through the leaves off to my right at the top of the ravine. I had a Hayden mount call with a little coaxer on it. I tried that and something trotted down into the ravine. I saw a few flashes through the brush but never got a good look.
