My brother and I got out for a little Christmas morning duck hunt. This hunt will probably be one of the best of the year, just because it was spent with him. He is going over seas in a few weeks and won't be able to hunt together for another year or so. The morning started out with ice on the roads and lots of snow on the ground. The pond was frozen and took a little bit to break the ice. I decided to group the decoys together like I have seen birds sit in an open pocket surrounded by ice. We weren't going to be picky this morning as we had to be at our parents for Christmas breakfast at 8am. We ended the morning with a variety of birds including 4 Gadwall, 3 Widgeon, and two spoonies. Every pond we drove by on the way home had birds and was not frozen. I think we picked the only frozen pond in the area, but it worked out for a quick hunt. Off to do some dog hunting in the snow in a little bit after the morning get together. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONEHere is a pic with my brother and I with the birds

Good hunt!
I could barely get out of the driveway this morning with the ice so I said F it and went back to sleep.

Time well spent, and something he can look back on while missing next year. Merry Christmas

I got vetoed last night by the wife. I went outside this morning and everything is still frozen. I drank my coffee and watched my neighbors attempt to get out of the driveway. Merry Christmas!
the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes
