I got an Avery Ground Force and Power Hunter just camo with avery killer weed. What I did first, rather than mudding them, is spray painted them with como paint to take the sheen off, then you don't have to worry about the mud washing off with rain etc.. It works better, and it is eaier.

Below are before and after pix of my Avery Ground Force and Power Hunter. Below is pic before the paint.

And with one can of this (kaki)

And it looks like this, note the sheen is gone..

I did a can of this (army green)

and it looks like this

I did another can of kaki, and it looks like this out in the sun

Think I added another can after this pic becuase I missed a few spots (look close at pic above and you can see where there is no paint). But you spray it from like 2 ft away, just mist it. Then I added some Avery killerweed, and also weave in some native grass. For my dog, I used a burlap cloth and weave some killerweed into that and just lay that over Molly she can see between the holds, I can completely cover her if needed. That worked great.

Keep in mind, the paint it to just take the sheen off, same as mudding it in. My paint is still on it from last season

Wow, I would never have considered painting my layouts. I simply weave some brush into them and crawl in!

We have always used grass or brush from the place we are hunting. Nothing will match like the real stuff.

Now with that said, I just bought some raffia to try and dye to match the winter wheat, and something to match the dead grass. The original color of raffia is way to light, not enough of a dirty brown look.

I just lay them out in some weeds as close to my decoys as possible. I usually lay some tree branches across them for added camo and weave some of the weeds into the straps.

Highly recommend knocking the Charlie Sheen of your new layout with tan camo paint. Light dusting as mentioned earlier.

Next:

Normally I buy the Raffia grass bundles from Wally-world for $1.58 each. Cut, bundle, paint with camo or dye with some "Rid" (Tan, brown, green), zip-tie and then attach. Previous project lasted three years. Needed to fill in some holes recently and 3 different Wally's were all out confused2 so yesterday I ordered three bundles of ten from Wildfowler Outfitter's for $10/75 each (shipped same day, should have them today or Monday). Raffia Grass They come pre-bundled in three different colors with clips to snap on your loops on the layout. As mentioned earlier. some of the grass is too bright so I dull it with the camo paint. Even after all this preparation I still go the extra mile and gather some of the local cover when I am getting set up.The results are well worth the effort. Nice having committed birds with wings cupped and landing gear down at 20 yards. up as opposed to having to settle for passing shots at 40+ because they are flaring your exposed azz. scratch

Using native grass to your area is for sure the way to go, especially if you are in a field where there is only 1 type grass and color, like your pic. If you do not have that color grass, you will stick out. But in the pic I show, there are a variety of grasses, so anything really works. I tell ya tho, Im pro simplicity. That setup I did in that pic above, I did that beginning of season last year, and I have not touched it since. Same paint, same killer weed. That killer weed last for every.

Another thing I like about the killer weed tying it in big clumps on the doors, is when you have the doors open like your pic and you want to lay there with the doors open which I like to do sometimes, you can reach around and the clumps of killer weed hanging from the doors, you can pull them over so they are laying on the inside of the doors, so your blind is camod even with the doors open.

I have a slightly used one. Mudded it one time and since it has been hosed off to store it in the garage. Still like new and has the glare (never painted it). Maybe used it 3 times in the last 3yrs. It is a Final Approach Pro Guide Eliminator Series. PM me if interested.
