After a lot of thinking and some gift cards I'm hopefully getting for Christmas, I'm gonna get a Turkey shotgun soon. I'm leaning towards either the camo turkey Remington 870 or the camp turkey Mossberg 835.
From your experience and/or research of these two guns, which do you think I should buy? Thx

I've had several of each over the years.
Remington 870 is my choice.

Had Moss 500's, 535's, Winchester 1300's, Remington 870's and have shot the 835. I'd swear by the 870 any and every day. That's all we're allowed to use for deer in Iowa is shotguns and have had the best, most accurate and reliable use from the 870. You can't go wrong. Huge aftermarket for them. However, if you can find a reasonable 870 Super Express Mag, snatch it up. It'll allow the 3 1/2" mag's. Very versitile gun. Otherwise the 870 Express will shot the 3" which will cover most anything you'd need. You wouldn't need the 3 1/2" for turkey but if you got the itch for goose or really blowing something apart, at least you'd have the option with the Super Express version. If the 870 wasn't around, I'd definitely go with the 535 Mossy (if you can find it reasonably) or the tried-and-true Mossy 500.

870 without a doubt is the better gun AND the better choice of the two. Have had both. WAS NOT impressed with the 835. I,m still trying to get my Dad to give me his old 870. He bought it about 50 years ago- just after I was born.

I have 2 870s my Dads Wingmaster in 20 gauge which I use for Doves quail etc. and this year I was able to get a 12 gauge Super Express Magumn which I really like for Turkey. I do not have anything against Mossberg but the History or the Remington is why I probably will never own anything else. You are probably going to spend more for the Remington. Enjoy

Remington is better quality and has a much better trigger. However, the Mossbergs are over-bore and tend to pattern a bit better. I've owned both and would not own a Mossberg again.

Well, I've owned both and still have the 835. Only bad thing w/ the 835 was it doesn't like all brands of shells and the 870 didn't care.
I like my 935 and think this one is much better than a pump any day. Even though it is suppose to only shoot 3-3 1/2" shells I've shot 2 3/4" #8 and 7 1/2 shot down to 1oz loads w/o a problem. This test was when it was new also. Some folks had issues shooting 2 3/4" shells no mater what. I ran almost a case of 2 3/4" #4 steel thru it last year. No hick-ups then either.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is the semi isn't that much more than the pumps and I think you'd be happier w/ it. Check it out and see what ya think.
