How can you tell how old a rifle is? I've heard it has to do with serial numbers, any help appreciated.

You can always cut it in half and count the rings it has ,just like you do a tree.

I don't know. But I have been hunting with my Browning 270 for over 30 years and it has never failed me! I have failed myself a couple of times.

Call the manufacturer and give them the serial #. Thay can give you the exact mfg date on the rifle. I have done this with a S&W pistol before.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Get a blue book of gun values. Match the serial # to the #'s in the book under the make and model. That should tell you the date.

Tell us the make, model and approx serial number and someone on here will have the info you want.

Or....Google "Remingtion dates of manufacture", or "Winchester dates of manufacture", etc.
