Went out to my favorite spot on public lake X and set up in hopes of seeing new birds. I get to my spot at about 6am, set up decoys and had a seat. 5 minutes to legal a single Drake Wood duck flys in and posts up in my Mallard decoys. (Ironically, There was a nice group of wood duck decoys on the other side of the spread) He sat around till LST, so i gave it an extra minute or two, and then jumped him. Bagged him, and then 15 minutes later a solo comes in after, and got it too. wound up being a fun (but bitter cold) hunt.

Yeah, the 16'th, sorry. I was really tired when I posted, but I didnt want to forget. The picture was taken by my friend on his iPhone. He couldnt get the lighting right, and when he did, it showcased my frusteration for iTechnology. That woodie was a mount canidate, but his beak looked like swiss cheeze up close.

They usually don't keep the same beak! Tell me you've still got him! All my mounts use artificial heads and beaks. The real ones shrink, and you have to clean out the head, and it's a mess. Still have to paint it too. So the artificial is much easier. The feathers are all that matters, not the beak, wing bones, feet, that is all replaceble.

My dog snores.

Well crap... I thought it was a lost cause so I cleaned him out and he's ready for the dinner table. I've got another wood duck in the freezer for mounting though. Shot him on the exact same spot as this one, in december. Kinda funny, It seems like I get one nice Wood duck present from God every december for my Birthday or christmas. Last year's birthday hunt got me 3 ring necks in the fog.

And about the gas thing... You know, passing through Pilot point, there's this little gas station called Allsup's.. they have these great Fried Beef/Bean burritos.. well, needless to say rubber pants and gas don't make a good combination.
