I've had both, but let's make this hypothetical. Pick any venue or let's just take them hunting. Pick your breed, but let's have two of the same breed. Which one would you pick?

They've both been through the two to three month breaking process. They're from a year to 18 months old, and in their first year of whatever.

Pup A finds more birds than the rest of the dogs put together, hits them hard and stylish, but still takes steps, has to be bumped at times to stay backed, and has to be bumped around. It's front running and among the fastest of it's breed.

Pup B was among the easiest you've ever seen to break. It points at a good distance, being real careful, and stays pointed. Same with backing. Good speed, and comes around easily. Pup B just doesn't pop your eyes out, and doesn't find it's share of birds.

Pup A or pup B for you?

That would be the deal killer wouldn't it? I mean if you are counting on one dog which I would assume since had to pick one, that dog has to find birds or nothing else matters.

I will take pup A. If it doesn't find birds all the rest doesn't matter. Age and birds will fix pup A besides at that age a lot of dogs are like a teenager (want to do it their way). As for breed I will take the English Pointer only because the short hair is easier to care for and they seem to have less problems with sand burrs.

Like track, you can't teach speed, and basketball you can't teach 7 foot. If he is constanly around birds you can polish the rest............I'll take A.

A

but I would want to know more about the nose issue that you mentioned. You also cannot teach nose. Statement of finding more than the rest put together. What does that mean? Did he get there first or the other dogs missed them? If B found and worked them but was slower ok. What kind of drive does B have.

heck

I will take both and decide when they are 3.

If it isn't white it is not a birddog.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

I would have to say A because I don't compete and not too worried about keeping the dog steady other than for safety reasons.

Since you have had both, which one turned out to be the better hunter in your opinion?

It was hypothetical. There are degrees of both. I'd take B as I get older. Dogs become more birdy. I think I had too many As before the e-collar. Just food for thought on a slow forum.
