I need a new pocket knife to use for outdoor purposes. I bought a Gerber for about 30 bucks at REI and it is terrible. Doesnt hold an edge worth crap. Anyone have any recommendations of some good brands that are under 50 bucks?

Cold Steel or contact a Cutco dealer. I have a small Cutco pocket knife that gets crazy sharp.

I have had 2 Kershaws and wouldnt trade them for nothin! The only reason I got the second one is because the first got stolen. Holds and edge good and also has the assisted opening! You can get them at academy or if you have a Gebo's close by they have a good selection!

I like the kershaws. I just got both the remington f.a.s.t. lock blade, and the sheath knife. The sheath knife is sweet it's right at 5 and 3/8in so it's still legal.

Like others have mentioned, the Kershaws with the assisted opening are excellent knives.

another vote for SOG. I have two of their knives and love them.
Kershaw is excellent, too.

Outdoors purposes are??? My knife I just recently bought is a 4-1/4" CASE trapper model. Ive got a old kabar and case 5-1/4 trapper that i and my dad use for everything INDOORS/OUTDOORS. These are old school knives two blades in either stainless or high carbon steel. CASE stainless blades are ease to maintain a nice sharp edge if your lucky to find one with in carbon steel blade even better. My 4" trapper with stainless blades was bought at basspro for 49.99 that weekend i cleaned and qtrd 4 deer with it so far, with just a touchup on a steel I LOVE THESE KNIVES. Ive have spypercos benchmades gerbers bucks and the CASE knives are by far the easiest knives to keep a edge. AND CASE ARE 100% AMERICAN MADE if you care about that kinda stuff

I, too, like the Moore Makers. I've spent a good bit of money over the years trying to find a perfect pocket knife, but this spring, while helping a friend on his lease, I found a knife buried in the dirt. It was completely packed with mud and had obviosly been there a long time. None of the regulars on the lease recognized it as belonging to any of them. I took it home, cleaned it up, oiled and sharpened it. Turns out, it is a Kershaw with the open-assist. I love the knife and carry it every day...and no...no rust problems.

I've got a Moore Maker as well. Great knives.
My wife's only thing is it can't stare at her when she is eating or sleeping!

Saw a Kershaw 1550 on eBay for $30, and he has 10 of them. Same guy I bought mine from NIB.
