I am going to be hunting some waterfowl up in Kansas the week of Christmas. I am a resident of Texas. What licenses will I be needing to be legal? I have looked at the hunting info on Kansas hunting website but am confused as to what will suffice. I have also sent them an email but have not heard back. I know some of ya'll have hunted ducks up there, can you help me out with license info?

Waterfowl

http://kdwp.state.ks.us/news/Hunting/Applications-and-Fees/Waterfowl

Don't buy your license until tomorrow or later, see the statement at the top of the page.

And link to the Kansas Applications/fees page.

Thanks for the links Sniper John. Those were the ones I was looking at. Thanks for the heads up on the date.

My question is do I need to be a non-resident hunting license for $72.50 in addition to the 48 hour waterfowl license for $27.50? Or is it just one or the other in addition to the HIP $2.50, State Waterfowl $7.00, and Federal Stamp?

I guess that could be confusing.

You do not need the general hunting license if you buy the waterfowl license. But it is good only for waterfowl. No cranes, snipe, pheasant can be shot for example.

You will need HIP, State Waterfowl, and Federal Waterfowl.

If you already have a Federal Stamp, for example on your Texas License. Just take along your Texas license with the Stamp on it.

You will need HIP for Kansas even if you already have it for Texas.

If you think you might have a chance at Sandhill Cranes, you will need the general license instead of the 48 hour Waterfowl license, Crane permit obtained online, and you will have to take and pass the Kansas online Crane Test.

Also, pay attention to the Bag Limit on Waterfowl. Kansas chose to stay with Hunters Choice. It is still 5 ducks there.

Depending on where you are going, realize a lot of small water could be frozen over depending on weather.

Good question. Looks to me like you could just get the 48 hour deal, but I'd call the 800 number to be sure.

Thanks for the info. That is what I was needing to know. I will be hunting with a seasoned resident duck hunter and he will be putting us on the birds. He has his spots and what we will be hunting, mainly green heads with some luck.

Wow adub, I lived 11 miles from Edna. Small world. What are they hunting? Farm ponds? If I would have known you were hunting in that area, I would have told you don't worry about a license, lol. I lived there 23 years, hunted and fish every chance I got and was never checked one time. Get ready to see crazy amounts of deer. That are counts them by the 25's and 50's. Not kidding.

That 48 hour Kansas waterfowl license is a great value. Very easy to get it online. Great for a short trip. For duck and goose, get the 48 hour, HIP, and State Migratory - and bring your TX license with your Fed duck stamp, and you are good to go for $39.14.

will be hunting ponds, rivers, and fields. they are covered in ducks up there. i hear you on the gw's because this place is very secluded. on the map where there is just a lot of nothing. apparently this year they are out in force and really checking everyone. the guy we are going is good friends with the local gw so we will be set..
that is why i am excited about the hunt, because the lack of pressure on waterfowl. this place is where all the big time deer can be had. they are thick and are huge.
