To fill in the gaps... we put the decoys out at the end of the day Saturday. The wind changed, and they were NOT in the right place to hunt over. That lake doesn't hunt well from the south, so we hunted elsewhere the next morning, when we came by after that hunt, the decoys were gone.

So you put your deeks out end of day Saturday to reserve your spot for Sunday morning, then did not even hunt that spot Sunday morning? Do I understand that right? If so, that is like double not cool! What if somebody else wanted to hunt that spot?

This is really a sore spot for me folks! I have even written to my states congressmen last year to have this practice out lawed in Texas. I had a situation last year, me and a bud get out early, get to a good spot, spend a lot of time setting out or deeks, when we are just about done, we see deeks set out next to ours. We say screw it, we are hunting there anyway, who knows if they will even show. We flashed off about 3 groups that morning, just waiting for some donut to come in and say that is their spot. 15 minutes before legal, we are feeling good, we flashed off everyone, and all looked good. Then here comes 2 donuts, 15 minutes before legal, we flash them and flash them and flash them, they kept coming. Then these donuts start yelling about 100 yards out “That’s our deeks man!!”. I load and cock my shotgun, I’m pissed! We have a major confrontation, my bud cools me down, thank god! I have never been so pissed before in my life! Since then, I have seen many time folks leave their decoys out over night, and I set up some were else, I learned my lesson, I don’t want any donuts coming in right before legal saying that is there spot and ruining my hunt. What is really a pisser is when no one even shows! I saw guys last year leave their deeks out all the way through the thanksgiving holiday! That is a bunch a crap! Anyone disagree with that?

That bites that somebody got your deeks. I had to leave mine on the bay once for I recieved a telephone call about an emergency at home. I had to leave right then with no time to get the deeks. Came back the next day and of course they were gone. I think it is wrong to leave your deeks, but the greater sinner here is the low down chicken doo doo thief. A thief is a snatch it when your not looking low down filthy peice of crap. If a person would even think of taking decoys that are not his, he is not worthy of the sport. There is only one peice of scum lower than an attorney and that would be the thief.

Aren't most Attorneys and Politicians Thieves.

The fact you left your decoys out over night then came back out early and decided to hunt another spot. In my opinion your Karma backed over your Dogma in the driveway. It is wrong for someone to take your decoys and I hope you catch them or get them back, but what you did is also wrong, and in my opinion selfish, you could of picked those up that night like most people do, you could of gotten up 45 minutes early picked them up and then hunted some where else, you could have bit the bullet and hunted the area you set up in...Once again it sucks that they took your decoys but your actions are the very actions that also make people not want to hunt on public places.

Nope. I just thank them for the use of the decoys, show them the strap of ducks and ask where they are planning on setting up before breakfast tomorrow.

I have heard it, but never "fell" for it. Now who would ever do that? Pack a muffin man, give me a break! I think the Duck Gods took his deeks.

Sounds like it is a lesson learned to me.

If I had have come across them, they would have been up a tree as well. Unless they are quality then they would have been at home with me.

Quit ebing a lazy arse by leaving you dekes out. Pick them up after every hunt on public. If you leave them out, you deserve to lose them.-----MAN-LAW.

Man law

For the record I do leave my dekes out on one public lake that I do hunt. But as a general rule we are the only group of hunters on the entire body of water for the entire weekend.

So in that case I do. But it is not to hold my spot, it is because I am lazy. If someone got there before me I guess they could hunt it.

My neighbor left his duck decoys in my yard this morning, J/k, that sums it up you wouldn't want to do all that work to find some lazy ? sleeping till sunup then trying to claim the public spot is his. If you remember the Golden Rule the world would be a better place for sure.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, but teach a man to fish and he will spend the grocery money on lures.

If you continue the practice long enough, it will inevitably lead to a confrontation and that is why the practice has been outlawed in some states and prohibited at some of the WMA's in Texas.

Does anything else more need to be said? If Texas had their act together, this practice would be ban statewide. MAN LAW - DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DEEKS OUT OVER NIGHT ON PUBLIC LAN! If anything, it can lead to litter, as wind can take you deeks away. It's not cool, don't do it!

All I have to say is anyone that leaves decoys out to mark their spot is a newbie. Wait till it happens to you a couple of times. You just get tired of it. Same goes for the people who hunt close to others. You will learn sooner or later.

if someone leaves dekes overnight or from morning to afternoon and you come across them do not steal them. If you feel the need to be an a$$, then tie then up to teach the person a lesson. Do not steal them, that is just wrong. If you were in the same position would you want someone to steal you??

Golden rule - "do unto others as they would do unto you"

If I show up and they are already out I will just add mine to the spread, wait for the confrontation, somebody will get pissed, somebody will get shot, etc..

Any of you guys that really think that this is ok on public waters are crazy. I know everyone of you would be pissed if you walked into this situation. Even the holier than thou group.

We should all know better.

Private pond yes. Public lake no.

We all know the rules. Whoever shows up first gets the spot. MAN LAW!!!!!!

I for one have really seen enough of this stupid conversation. I'm going to take some more meds and take a nap now.
