Does anybody have any suggestion for keeping coons from stealing corn every night besides a varmint cage. I am looking for ideas that wont spook my deer away. I am going through 100lbs of corn a week but am only throwing about half this much. I have many pics of them visiting on a daily basis and even in the daylight.

What kinda feeder? How close to the ground? We used to coat the feeder legs with crisco to keep them from climbing up. It worked good enough. Other than that... We made varmit cages for ours using mesh wire and metal clips to hold it together.

Put Grease on the feeder Legs dosnt bother the deer at all. besides that it is funny watching them try to climb up.

There is a product called Shark Teeth that you put on the legs that will keep the coons from climbing up on your feeder. We use them on all three of our feeders and it solved our coon problems. We don't have to use varmint cages anymore on our feeders.
There was a thread a few weeks ago called "Coon issues" where I explained what Shark Teeth were.

we put carpet tack strips on each leg. also live traps. we have eliminated 5 brutes already in the traps this yr. i havent seen many coons on cam since early november. so, problem solved.

Were is the problem located? Try a local coon hunter in the off season. And no the hounds will not run your deer off trust me. I own the 2008 Texas state champion coonhound. I live in the middle of a pecan orchard with a feeder on it and I coon hunt here. I have about two pics a week with coons on the feeder but tons of deer. If you like tell me what area the problem is and I can find a REPUTABLE person to help you.

Target practice in the off season or put about 5ft of PVC around your feeder legs.

Not sure where Haslet is, but I would help with coonstermination if it isn't too far.

Why would a feeder cage spook the deer. The more noise my feeder can make, the better. Kinda like those old Hungry Jack commercials where Ma would go out and ring the bell and yell "Hungry! Hungry Jack". Dinner is served!
