Im looking to get my little brother a new shotgun for christmas. I dont have just a ton of money im looking to spend probly no more than $700. Im thinking pump and ive been looking at the beneli super nova and the bps browning. One guy recomended a remington 820 ive never shot any of these so i know nothing about any of them. What are yalls opinions? Yall know of any other good guns around that price? Thanks

Remington 870. Without a doubt the best shotgun ever made. I'd get the Wingmaster version, those are real nice.

$700 is way more than youll need for a pump. you can find a few semi-autos for that price. You can get any one of those pumps under $450 out the door.
Is he looking for an all-around shotgun or a "duck gun"? IF he is looking for a duck gun, look into some 3' chamber semi-autos.
This thread will probably take off and you will end up with way more information than you were expecting. Just remember, 95% of the people will say the best gun is one they own.
Will you be my big brother? Thats a hell of a present.
I like spoonie, his humor is dryer than my duck lease.

What birds are you going to hunt?
How old/big is your little bro?
Does he currently own/shoot a shotgun?

Dude get the 870 mag so you can shoot 3 in shells, its affordable, reliable, and virtually every accessory made has a model to fit the 870.

Ok i say little brother but he is 19 he shoots my stoger pump right now he has been more of a fisherman than a hunter but he is starting to get into hunting with me. Im looking for a gun that is mainly for ducks but also for doves or geese or w.e. other oportunities he might come around.

One of my dad's friends is a duck hunting guide down in Louisiana. He's tried tons of different shotguns over the years, but the mud, sand and water are usually too much for them. The only gun that has worked for him is the 870. That says something right there.

I can't say enough good things about my nova. It is a tank. It gets a little oil every three or four trips and never fails. I've used it as a paddle, a shovel, dropped it in the mud, and dropped it underwater and it keeps going.

You cant go wrong with the remington 870. Not the prettiest or the fanciest but they work. Also the one time I had a problem with my 870 remington treated me right.

remington 870mag with a 28 inch barrel if you can get it. if not a 26inch is good.
sometimes they come with a nice recoil pad, if not buy a limbsaver pad and put it on. will save his shoulder shooting clays/doves.

I like the Browning BPS better than the 870. My 870 had problems right out of the box...and I had to send it back to Remington to fix it. My brother and my BPS have worked flawlessly for years.

Dont waste your money on an 870 Express anything. It will be junk in a few years. Way better guns out there for the money you are talking about. You can get a Franchi I12 or a Stoger P200 if you want an auto. A Browning BPS, a great gun. Benelli Nova, stoger P350.
Every Remington shotgun I have ever owned has left me with nothing but failures. I maintain all my equipment. My Browning BPS has out shot all of my guns for years. IMO one of the best pumps on the market bottom line. The only drawback... No side port ejection/feed.
I now shoot a Nova and have for the past couple years. I am hard on my equipment as a lot of us are. From salt marsh and boat rides to the nasty conditions that I hunt, the Browning and the Nova are the only guns that have served me well. Before my Browning, the Mossy 500 handmedown served me for years.

I've got an 870 express magnum. replaced the wood stock with remington camo. lightened it up some and looks cool. can't go wrong but you can by 3 for $700

Make sure he's there with you to start scrubbing the rust off the barrel as soon as you get to the car from the store...

guys who are saying go with a BPS, how do they fit you? I had a BPS stalker chambered in 3 1/2 and that thing was terribly long. Didnt take away the fact that it was a great shooting gun, just slow all around to pump, shoot, load one in the chamber etc. I am still saying 870. They dont rust that bad.

I love my Nova. I've had it for almost 10 years now, Beat the piss out of it, and Cleaned it every time, and it still looks and operates like new, Never had a failure. Quite a durable gun, and it chambers 3.5" shells Just in case you feel like going on a Goose hunt or a crane hunt.
870 represents a great value as well, and I'd own one just the same. I've seen 870's older than me work just fine. I don't know much about the mossberg 500, but after shouldering and inspecting a few, it doesn't seem to have the refinement of the Nova or 870, so much so that it feels rickety.

Id get him the 870. Nova isnt bad but whats the point in a benelli pump gun? I would stay away from the mossberg 500.
