Mallard Jr. has had the bow hunting bug since last season. His first flung arrow last year from a pop-up grazed the back of the doe we had at 12 yards. He was devastated but hooked for sure. Yesterday morning he was in a tripod and I was observing from our rifle blind 100 yards away. Colts second ever released arrow found its mark on a nice freezer filler doe. Colt was absolutely amazing! He shot that doe from a tri-pod and had to wait for almost an hour with deer all around him before he had the opportunity to draw his bow……and then he closed the deal! I almost knocked our rifle blind down when I saw that fletching sticking out of that doe when he released that arrow. Then I go down there to get him out of the tripod and I see white belly 65 yards from the stand!! I am still on cloud 9. He’s already more patient than his dad! Those Slick Trick 85 grain broad heads are amazing too. He’s not pulling a lot of weight but you can see the damage that that head did on his 18 yard shot.

Heck yea, congrats to your son. How old is he and how much weight is he pulling? My 10yr old wants a bow, but I don't think he could pull/ enough to kill a deer. I'm debating weather to get a hunting bow like the razors edge for him or just a practice bow like the bear bows at walmart.

With that new Rage 40K head it wouldn't take much draw weight 20 yards and under on a whitetail. Shot placement would be the key.

Wgonfan....he's pulling between 35-40 lbs with a Diamond Edge bow.

Passthru....I shoot Rage but and even though I thought about the Rage 40k I opted for the Slick Trick because I didn't want to loose any KE with him pulling less than 40#. The ST performed great on his 18 yard quartering shot with an opposite side exit and put her down in 65 yards.

He couldn't go this weekend and I was hunting the same tripod he was in last week. No shooters just a bunch of doe and little bucks but I couldn't help sitting there thinking what must have been going through his mind while waiting to get that shot! I am still beyond pumped!!
