The past three times me and ttubudd (Eric)went out to hunt Sandhill cranes we have had no luck. We have been seeing thousands of cranes but none have came close enough to shoot. Well we did some scouting and found a corn field that the cranes have been flying in and feeding. We got permission to hunt it and we decided to put my decoys out in the field a couple mornings later. We got all set up and here comes the cranes. We say thousands of cranes and managed to shoot both our limits by around 9:30. Those birds sure are tough to kill! Eric had a crane down in the field and walked up to it about 15 yards away shot it in the head with a dove load and the crane shook his head, picked up a stick and was ready to fight!! He didnt survive one more blow to the head. That night we cooked sandhill crane k-bobs and they were great!! Good hunt Eric! we will have to get back out there this next week. Me: Eric:

I've never killed them or eaten them and would love to try. I love the sound of a big bird hitting the ground. Those have to be tremendous.
The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Genesis 9:2

Just an FYI you can use lead for cranes, there are some stipulations though.
