I know this is an issue we all face, but it seems like with the younger genrations that Duck hunt now days some of them do not give other hunters respect. For those of you that this note does not apply to, please don't take this too heart. My gripe is we were set up on a point at LOP Saturday morning got there around 5:00am and one else around we were about 50 yards from the tree line on our right this is dry land when water is down. About 5:30 2 boats came our way we blinked our lights on and off to let them know we were there, they kept going up and down the bank and slowing down and they both stopped about 50 yards across from us one of them left and went about 60 yards behind us and the other boat stayed there. My son was fit to be tied i was a little upset but more concerned about them shooting our way and hitting my 12 year old daughter. We could of picked up and moved but we had 2 dozen diks out and had brushed the boat. It turned out ok no ducks they shot a couple of times at ducks that were wearing oxygen mask but we did not get sprayed and they left at 7:30am. So please you young fellows please respect other hunters, if they are set up in your spot do not crowd them, cause no good is going to come to it. I can tell you this that if they would of shot my daughter it would of not been a pretty scenc out on the lake. Maybe i should of said something when they first arrived, but i felt they would move on. It's public water so they have the right to be there but not to put others in harms way. I have been Duck hunting for over 20 years and have seen all kinds. So please give others the space they need so we can all enjoy the sport it would be a shame to have a accident happen that could of been avoided. Sorry for the long rant but this is a on going problem.

This is an ongoing problem and I have seen it again and again. Do you think that this is happening more than it used to due to more young hunters? I wouldn't doubt it, alot of people my age have little understanding of respect. I make it a point to get to spots very early, and never set up on someone. there is always one guy here or there that comes in late and sets up right on top of somebody, seems like it is usually on me. Alot of guys don't realize that you gotta have a plan b, so if someone beats you to your spot you can move on.

i have always thought duck hunters to be more ethical and respectful than most other types of hunters, but during this season i have slightly changed my mind. I dont necessarily blame it on the younger crowd, although it may be. I think it has to do more with greed and selfishness, especially in public waters. Im 19 years old and i know that the guys i hunt with (who are all my age) definitely have respect for other hunters, spots, and authority.

I think that it's not just young hunters doing it; I'm 22 and I've had plenty of older guys set up right on top of me. I think it's more-so people who don't have an understanding of right/wrong or who really just don't care and are A holes.

I had the same thing happen to me but on the other end. I am 23 and had some "old guys" come in and set up on the opposite sid of a 50 yd wide point. When ducks would come work my spread they would circle and they would shoot them over the trees.

I think the locals around some of these area lake feel like they have a since of entitlement because they've been hunting them for 20+ years. Which I could give a chit less..they need to jump into the 21st century or quick hunting public...

Does texas not have a minimum distance law? In OK on some lakes there is a minimum 200 yard distance that you can set up from somebody. If they too close, call mr. greenjeans.

Old or young. Some hunters are just too damn lazy to seek out alternative spots. I've seen it time after time where a group will set up at their planned spot irregardless of many hunters are in the area. Usually the outcome and experience by all are not good.

I did however have a group of walk ins two weekends ago walk all the way out to their planned spot. After they saw my set up they walked all the way across to the other hole. There are still some good hunters out there. I planned on thanking them on the way out but they had already headed home. up

Had a group yesterday start setting up about 50 yards from me. After a brief discussion, they moved down a couple of hundred yards.

Saturday morning we had a group move in to within 100 yards of our spot. They also moved out to about 150, still too damn close imo but at least they didn't sit in my lap.

I have been lucky so far this season.

Usually, If I'm getting flashed at, I'll approach the hunter (if it's not near LST) and chat with them a while, see what they intend on doing, and find myself an agreeable spot on the lake. If someone approached me like this, I'd be willing to probably let them hunt with me. It's about mutual respect for your fellow hunters. Not everyone has it, but "you", me, We.. Need to be above reproach.

I usually see a flashing light as a sign to go away...not come over here and shoot the bull wink but hey if it works then cool..

I'm not singling out young folks in general on this issue. But just so happens that the times that this has occurried to me it has been young hunters anywhere fron 18 to 21 years of age. I relize that the older hunters do dumb stuff also as they say you can't fix stupid. It's not a matter of us old guys thinking that we own the lake, as you say it's public waters, it's about respect of others. I for one put a lot of time and money into my hunting/fishing i do my home work and scouting and get there extra early to set up my spread and do have a plan B incase someone is on the spot i want to hunt i do not and will not crowd them. I would hope that some of those guys that do no have respect for others will see these topics or talk to someone that has and will learn the rights and wrongs while hunting and it's not just in hunting these type of things happen in also in fishing , rude behavior and some of it may be that they never were taught how to be respectful. Hope all of you have a Happy Thnaksgiving and good luck on your hunts.

I've only had hunters crowd me when hunting tanks on public land. There are not many options for them but to leave completely, and that's not likely to happen. It would certainly be better to agree to hunt together. I usually end up talking with then anyway, when I take my dog to deliver them from their fishing pole with a topwater lure approach to retrieving ducks!

I would say that most of the time when I get set up on top of it's mostly older guys(probably 35+ not that old I know, but I'm 22). I've just come to realize that 'it is what it is' it's just something we gotta deal with now days.

Funny how the older guys think it's all the "young punks" and the "young punks" think it's the "old lazy farts". Not saying you are blaming anybody Godevil it's just in general you hear or see the same a lot.

Way I see it is we are all out there to do the same thing. So I don't understand why people set up on others as far as safety goes, and 99% of the time it just hurts you as far as ducks too. But there's always going to be those a$$holes and you just have to deal with them sometimes, or find a better spot.

We had some guys set up close to us on opening day. I quite getting mad about stuff like that a long time ago. There is nothing you can do about short of having an old fashioned shoot out...now there's an idea smile Anyway, they weren't real close about 200 yrds or so so we figured it would just keep the birds moving. Its about an hour before LST and we hear the radio crank up with some disco music, I think it was "Staying Alive". Just when you think you've seen everything...

The vast majority of the times I have seen people come in late and set up on me are guys that are probably in their 40s.

Once I had some young guys come in late and they talked to me and I made a concession on where they could set up that I shouldn't have, but they did talk to me.
