If you don't see anything while hunting the wetlands, you can always go back to his house and see a bunch.

However ...

Today was an exception!

It was one of those everything-went-right mornings. Started off with a pair of Gadwalls that made a pass, came around for a 2nd look about 35 yards out and cupped. One shot and they both dropped! Had a double dawg retrieve right out of the box.

Next came a group of 3 Wigeon that responded perfectly to my whistle ... "who-is-she, who-is-she". They cupped, lowered landing gear and ... Bang-splash, bang-splash and bang-splash. My first triple in the past several seasons! The last group was 15 minutes later and they too turned on the whistle, glided in over Carol's bang-splash. As they flared I followed on the 2nd duck and splashed it too. We decided that was enough for the morning and we'd get out of there to give the wetlands a rest. It had been an hour, and there was a fair amount of noise between the shooting and remote dawg handling so we hung it up short of a double limit ... But a full limit of enjoyment with the wifey person and our two kids!

Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

I have a couple inexpensive wigeon/pintail/teal calls. I frequently will use my dawg whistle and just partially cover the exhaust port to prevent the pea from vibrating. Say "MAREEP" into your dawg whistle for a drake mallard sound, and "WHO-IS-SHE" for the Wigeon. The Teal and Pintails are just single "peeps".

Ever been to this site?

In addition to good ID info, there is a sound file for most all of the North American Ducks we see. Try the Wigeon sound file as an example. You'll understand why I say ... "WHO-IS-SHE?" into my whistle.

Cappy, I showed my wife your pics and she agreed that you have a beautiful place. She wanted to know when we were going to visit you. smile
