I am looking for info on the Top-Flight hunting preserve in Columbus, TX. Has anyone hunted there recently. If so, how is the cover, do the birds fly well?

Thanks in advance.

I have some friends from the PDJ website who hunt there. They've posted pictures. Looks pretty good. I'll email this link to Bbuff. He's been there. He'll let you know.

Come out to our next NSTRA trial and hunt free after the trial on Saturday.

We shot there with a friend that has a member's several times late last Winter and Spring. The cover was so-so ans he several brush plies that needed to be burned but couldnt because of the dry weather.

My friend has been back a few times this year and he said the cover is really good and the piles have been burned and it was pretty nice.

Birds flying, well, about like anywhere I have been. 2 will scare the socks off you when they bust out and the third wont fly for anything.

Do you still have any of the pictures in your photobucket album?

Thanks Bill,
If I don't go hunting that weekend I'll try to make it over. I talked to Leon at Top-flight today. I'm going to stop by and look the place over Wednesday on the way to Houston.

I went to top flight a few years ago with a group of 12, man we had a awesome time. Shot lots of skeet the evening before our hunt. They made good food for us and the price was good too.

Some of the quail were hard to get up and some you could kick and all they would do is run. We hunted quail and chukar too though and I think all those flew well.

The guide we had ran the dogs a little different than I had seen before. He had one pointer in the field and another flush dog. the flush dog stayed on heel until the dog pointed then he would go in and bust em up and fetch. Maybe it helps for those running birds.

I hunted Chukar at Top Flight in mid-October. My dog and I hunted a 40 acre spot. He found 8 Chukar, a pheasant and a Quail. Chukar were flying great as were the Pheasant and Quail.

Cover was good. Only issue I had was that I went right after a good thunder storm so the mosquitoes were horrible. I do plan to go again but not until we get a good freeze down here in South East Texas.

CSF-GSP,
Did you have Leon put out the chukar and pheasant, or were they left over birds already in the feid from a previous hunt?

I've had a membership there for two years. I've enjoyed it. Bobby B went with me 3 times last year. I will be going Friday, can't wait.

Leon puts the birds out before your hunt plus we often find birds left from previous hunts (including pheasant and chukar-I usually get quail).

The cover is quite good right now (been 4 times and going Friday). Fields are 35-60 acres and I ask to have the birds spread out.

Phil

Phil,
Thanks for the reply. I went by Top-Flight Wednesday and visited with Leon. He took me on a tour of his place. I really liked the amount of cover he has this year. I'll be scheduling a non-guided hunt or 2 as soon as they get a frost.
