I thought it would be interesting to list the Texas counties you have seen Mountain lions in to get an unscientific idea of their range. LOL - no black cats please.

Where have you seen them and how many have you seen?

I will go first.......

Upton county - 2 sightings.

3 sighting's 1 in Glasscock County, 1 in Borden County and 1 in Howard county. We currently have 3 traps out for cats on the big ranch all baited with live goats.

The guy I know that owns 45K acres in Pecos Cnty on the border of Terrell County says he lost count of how many he has seen and/or killed out there since he was a boy.
We keep our eyes peeled big time out there. I wanna shoot one bad. We had a pile of skinned foxes about 50 yards from our camp last time we were down there disappear over night. 4 or 5 carcasses just gone. Not sure if it was a cat but don't know what else it could have been.

That cat better bring a pair of side cutters with him because that's the only way he's going to get close to them goat's.

Seen one driving through Waller County off in the distance walkin through a field. It was very big. You could clearly see it from a faraway distance and I am positive it was one because of its long tail. People have said to have seen em on my lease in kinney county.

The beauty of the Second Ammendment is it won't be needed until they try and take it.

1 sighting 3 weeks ago in Presidio county just outside Redford at 30 yards stalking my guide as he was coming down the mountain.

Another sighting in Hudspeth county northwest of Sierra Blanca last winter.

And one more sighting in Terlingua , Brewster county, last year and tracks found in far east El Paso county but no confirmed sighting yet on that one.

Have seen Lions in Edwards county, Kimble County, Dallas County, Tarrant County, Denton County, Throckmorton County, Baylor County, Young County & Archer County smile If you spend enuff time in the outdoors either sitting in a deer blind or spot & stalk hunting you will see them. There has not been a documented case of a Lion attacking a human here in Texas in the last 50 year probably more!

Last January a friend and I saw a small mountain lion on Lake Belton near Morgan's Point. We were in a boat fishing in the back of a creek. At first thought it was a large bobcat until we noticed the long distinctive tail.

If you're familiar with the area, saw it really close to where CR 231 and CR 219 meet. Neighbors have seen it too back towards CR 235 right off that high fence place.

A guy on our lease spotted a cat 300 yrds from our camp in Pecos Co.

This was before we had pluming in the camp house.

Running joke was that if you had the cold nose of a cat bump you in the butt while dropping a duece, dont look back and run like he77!!!

I have spotted one in hunt county. the sabine river bottoms where a pipeline runs through.

Also seen one in rains county on our place varmint hunting,

We didn't take the shot because we didn't know what it was till it spooked and hauled @$$. Next day rancher on property next to us said he seen it checking cows, found afterbirth but no calf.

Dad saw 3 in Coreyell County/ Gatesville. Friend saw one in COLLIN COUNTY! 3 days ago. We were thinking the coyotes were getting out of hand by the number of dead or injured calves, but I bet this cat has something to do with it. The 5' x 10' x 4' tall trap is in the shop right now, hopefully it'll be finished and set by Saturday.

Have seen tracks all over Grapevine corp. east of 377 south of little denton creek. some prints are in the area of 4 inches across and a fellow hunter the other day said he thought it was a HUGE bobcat over a gut pile till it walked away and he saw the 4ft long tail. Makes you wanna keep your eyes on the trees.

You can add Llano and Lampasas counties to the list.

That's scary, your friend's mom seeing one in the backyard. Keep the 30-30 handy.

Last year, My boss was asleep in bed, when the doorbell rang. He lives in Lake Dallas! We are talking just nortwest of Lewisville. Well, there was a sheriff standing on the porch, and told my boss to stay in the house. He just seen about a 180lb cat in his front yard and jump the backyard fence. The next day the game warden came out, and the tracks were in the back yard. So, I guess the old addage that "where there's deer, there is mountain lions" might still ring true. The warden said there were several living in the area.

Duval County, just outside of Freer. We've had 3 sightings over the course of the last 8 years. One shot at and missed by a guest. All 3 were supposedly fairly small, maybe 70-80lbs.

I saw 5 in Upton Co from the late 70's to around 1990, one was on the air strip on the west side of Rankin just a couple hundred yards from our house. Saw 2 in northen Crocket Co and 1 in west Reagan Co. Actually 6 in Upton if you count the dead one the Gov. traper got.

I grew up in Odessa, and when I was little, my dad and older brothers were coming home from deer hunting and found a mountain lion that had JUST got hit and killed on I-10. IT was just west of Roosevelt I think. Might have been closer to Sheffield. No scars at all from it. They had it mounted, but back in 1995, it was stolen out of our storage room. It wasnt but about a 80lb cat, but a neat mount none the less.

Your search should have shown three which have occured since 1980 all in southwest texas. No fatalites. I dont know how to post the link but my search took only a second and it was TPW info.

I have posted about this before and its been along time ago. But I have seen three in parker county. I had someone with me in all three sightings. One in the early 80s running trot line on brazos with a Jon boat electic motor at 1am no more then 30yrds away. Small cat 70 80# be my guess. The other in 1997 or 98 100yds away crossing a rd near a place I managed. And the other around the same time frame about 5 miles where that cat crossed the rd near Advance rd. That one came to rattling horns. I wasnt fast enough to get a shot. It was a big cat. I know alot of people that dont think its possible. I lived in theses areas and spent everyday in the field. And these are isolated incidents. If someone really wanted to research it the Weatherford demacrat paper had a write up about a cat hunter that came up from alpine and confirmed a kill in parker around the time frame I saw those two cats in the late 90s.

Hunted a lease about 40 miles west of Corpus Christi, think it was still in Nueces county. It had a pair on there, guy on the place next to us killed one of them. This was 20 years ago. Meanwhile fast forward to this summer in Erath county just outside of Lingelville I walked up on a adult mountain lion. He went one way I went the other. Guys on the ranch next to me have seen it a couple of times also.

Hunted around Sierra Alto just east of El Paso past Hueco Tanks over Mule Deer season.
Fellow lease hunters saw a mountain lion up on one of the mountains.
Took several shots at him and hiked up to look for him.
Did not find anything though.
Several cats have been trapped on the ranch in the past 10 years and they have a full mounted one in the ranch bunk house.

I saw one on the Baird Lake rd in Callahan co. early 90's, it was in the middle of the road. Had to stop for it as it just walked to the fence and hopped it like a deer. It never ran just looked back at me and walked away!
A few years later I was driving behind a guy a was hunting with on the way to the ranch, he swerved off the road to miss one he said, but I did not see it for myself. But it was right at the south city limit sign of Lawn Tx in Taylor co.

We had them on the lease between fredericksburg and Junction. We had them Just North of Coleman in 2001.We had them in Sanderson, and we had them in Marathon. The one Cat just North of Coleman was a fact -yet we had no way to prove it.At that time we had a lease with JB Smith Ranch. We told him and he just lokked at us kinda funny..LOL we told the local game warden and he pretty much did the same.About 4 years later a guy killed one while hunting..Guess we were right after all.I think there are alot more around than any of us really know.

Callahan County - 2002. Ranchers wife saw it killing calves - i thought - yeah right. Then I saw it eating a gut pile from a buck we had shot earlier in the day.

I've never actually laid eyes on one, but I've seen tracks that were an easy 3-4" across in Fisher Co.
My BIL discounted these tracks as the neighbors' dogs, but we never see them on our property.

there is an almost surefire way to tell....

a dogs outside toes will be even with each other...

the mountain lion will be undoubtedly uneven.. like one further
forward than the other

I saw one last night. I thought I was crazy but something has been eating my chickens...one per night before I go shut them up at night and I decided to sit out there with a .22 and shoot what I assumed was a coyote and it ended up being what looked like a cougar to me. I came online to look around and see if anyone else had seen one in or near Waller recently because I was not aware they were this far east. Maybe I'm not crazy. I saw a long tail and it was a buff color like my dog. It walked right into the light of the flashlight I had pointed out into the yard not 30 feet from me. Maybe I'm crazy but I know what I saw.

I know a person that owns 1250 acres that is just off 377 south of the Colo. river on the San Saba / McCullogh conty line. One night a govt. trapper called and asked permission to continue tracking a big cat on to their property. About a year later my brother seen one in the ranch road while on a 4 wheeler. I shot a doe late one evening and trailed it across a creek for about 100 yards. It got to dark and I had no fashlight. Since it was cold I figured I would go back in the morning. I found it really quickly and it was in a muddy spot covered with leaves and twigs and there tracks bigger than my palm. This was the second wounded deer I had found covered on this ranch. They are out there.

Add Runnels, and Palo pinto. Have seen tracks in Eastland but no one on the lease ever saw the cat

Up late last night, apparently too late. Not Palo Pinto, our lease was in Stephens county on PK. Had pics of 3 different cats on game cams.

We have seen one twice here. Once was chasing some piglets across the road, the other time it walked right through camp slowly and not scared at all. There were 10 of us that saw this one.

My grandpa lives near our land and has seen one a couple of other times. Most recently crossing a gravel road real slowly.

I suspect they hang out near us do to the large amount of hog kills we leave in one area. Never once has a hog lasted 3 days once I put it out. And several dissapear completely, no bones, fur etc.

I tried to put up a trail cam, but the buzzards during the day killed my battery. Hog was completely gone when I got the cam, but batteries where killed the very first day with buzzards.

For those tracking, this is Hopkins County.

I didn't think I would be adding a sighting to the list. A friend and his daughter were out hunting yesterday afternoon on my families property in Northwest Red River County and saw one. When I talked to him they said they got a good look at it.

We see them in Jack County ever so often. Our neighbor got one on Game Cam this year. I saw one up close last year, about ten feet actually. He was as suprised to see me as I was to see him. They run incredibly fast.

I haven't been fortunate enough to lay eyes on one yet but a landowner I've hunted with the last 9 years has seen a few over the years in Donley Co. just off the river by his place and the lease I have this year in Motley Co. had a cat runnin' around this summer.
