Was wondering, I dont see many s.texas hunters on here.
Im seeing about half the deer I usually see this time of year
I guess they have a lot to eat with all the rain. Have seen
more hogs than ever before.

I am going down in a few weeks if all goes as planned. My buddies place isn't looking so good I heard. During the heli survey they saw HALF as many deer as normal. Heard they got about 110 tags on 11,000 acres. More buck tags than does. Past couple years it was 150 to 180 tags. Guess the early drought did a number down there but nothing is confirmed yet if that is the only cause. Rain came way late so maybe most of the fawn crop was lost.

My ranch is in LaSalle county to the east of you. Deer movement has been extremely slow this year. We are also seeing about half the number of deer we usually see. Too much green stuff for them to eat. Just be patient. It will get better when the rut kicks off and we finally get a freeze to knock back the vegetation.

I think this is happening everywhere in South Texas and Hill Country.

The place I was talking about above, if they go beginning of Nov, they are lucky to see deer. Come December, the place turns upside down. They rarely even hunt it in Oct/Nov and fill all the tags in Dec/Jan. No supplemental feed though and only run feeders during the season. Didn't plant food plots this year but apparantly should have with the late rain.

hang in there the rut is not far away, a young ten just popped out and the feeder just went off, ya gotta love young deer

Any new reports? I am going next weekend. Last weeks report was very depressing. No deer hardly and only spikes seen. Either the drought did a number or some disease. A freeze is forecasted so hopefully that will help.

Good news is there is tons of water now and other game to hunt. 1,000's of ducks I hear on the place I am going.

was there a couple weekends back. More deer (bucks) showing
up. The deer eat a little corn and then move on to feed on all the green stuff. This weekends freeze and the upcoming rut will
really turn things on. Seeing hogs everytime I go out and at all
blind locations. Killed 8 already. Im heading out Friday- Mon.
and cant wait.

I am leaving Sunday, and hunting until Friday or Sat. Should be on, and with the way the landowner rootplowed the place , we should be able to see the rut happen right before our eyes, can't hardly wait. Time to rattle mid day and put out some scent.

Stole my thunder. We're in LaSalle County and things have been slow so far. Like you said...too much vegetation for them to eat right now. Heck, we got our oats to come up this year and they aren't hitting the food plot like they would be in a drier year (of course the plot didn't come up at all last year with the drought). Rut should be starting up soon if not this week, and with the colder weather things will pick up.
