How many of you have killed a good buck that neither you nor anyone on your lease had ever seen before, nor had it been seen on game camera before? Just wondering how many had killed good bucks that showed up for the first and only time. I haven't seen much yet and maybe I can get the inspiration to keep going. Just kidding, but would like an answer to the question.

I never used a game camera until this year so none of the deer I or my family had shot had been seen by us before. Several good bucks in that bunch.

My hubby got his biggest one in San Saba just that way. Nobody had seen this buck before, and to top it off it was a rainy 40 degree morning... didn't think we'd see much of anything.

Killed an 11 point that was just passing through on our small place by canyon lake, watched that feeder for several weeks before that day and never saw him and then one day BOOM he was crossing the place and seemed to have no interest in the feeder or even slowing down. He was just a stranger in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We have somewhere between 15-20 cameras on our ranch, one on every feeder and some that are just on random game trails. Last thanksgiving I was bowhunting and got busted by a buck that I had never seen before. Probably the biggest buck that I have ever seen in person... I didn't kill him, but that is the first time that I have seen a (big) buck that I hadn't seen on camera in several years. He still haunts me.

I heard the story many times, and I usually don't rely on game cameras a whole lot to tell you what's in the area.
During the rut the bucks move and may move a long way, and not hang around long enough to get on camera.
The home grown resident variety don't mind getting their picture took.
I'm kind of dealing with that right now. All bow season I didn't see but a couple small bucks and bunches of does, but now they are starting to trikle in, and hopefully in the next few days I'll get a big surprize.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Yeah the buck I killed last year was never on any of my 3 cameras and I only saw him once for the first time pre season scouting. We hunt on 150 acres and every other piece of land around us is small land owners less then 40 acres with alot of hunters and no one had ever seen him. he was a 5.5 year old 10 point with a split brow tine that was almost 21 inches wide and scored 137..ill upload pics tonight...which is weird because of all the hunters and I have hunted/owned that land for years and never seen him or anything close to that wide.

There is no way you can document every deer, even on a high fence ranch.
I have a friend that went on a high fence management hunt last year. The place only had 500 acres under high fence, and it had been managed intensively for the past several seasons. The owners thought they had great video and trailcam documentation of every buck on the ranch, right? Wrong. My friend shot a 130 inch 5 year old eight point that nobody had ever seen.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I have 2 good bucks running around my place that have never been seen, I chalk it up to the rut either about to start or already started.

Yes I have and one of my nephews does nearly every year, we both hunt NEAR (1000 yds or so) a fence. Some of his he actually watched cross the fence.

Since I hunt all but 14 days of the deer season I like to have options. You would be surprised that most of the cams never get the same deer on them. I have two cameras about 200 yards apart, and they never have the same deer. I do have 64 acres now, but this is the first year so I didn't count that.

Shot a big 8 this year. Tall and wide. 5.5 YO. None of us ever saw him around the place before, nor was he on any cameras ever. Being a fan of the 8, those are always nice surprises..

Probably had over 4,000 pics over 3 years and never saw the 12 pt. until Dec 15, 2007. It was foggy as hell and I thought he was a heavy 10 i had saw a bunch. I was surprised as hell when I walked up on him and saw the kickers and acorn tips on this dude. Looking at him right now.

I have seen a 18 point 176" non typical show up out of the clear blue in an area not known for big bucks at all!
I have also seen deer on camera in the daytime on many occasions that I have never ever laid eyes on!

the only bucks ive killed that i had seen before, or seen on the game camera were either really small, or spike/trash deer. x2, this is why I feel that the spike tag is a lock, last year seen the same 3 spikes all year long, and a lot of the time they either ran together or I would see one or two in the morn then see the other that night.

Been on this lease 7 years, only once have I shot a buck that was seen before. It had been seen the day before. When rut hits, the bucks move a lot, so it's just right spot, right time.
