Noticed a couple of young bucks still chasing does in Houston County this past weekend. But at the same time, it seems deer sightings overall are way down than during the first weeks of previous seasons. And while the deer seem to be hitting the food plots some, there still seems to be plenty for them to eat elsewhere.

With much colder weather happening this week, I'm expecting a lot more activity this coming weekend.

What are have you been seeing in your neck of the East Texas woods?

I hunt Leon county between centerville and the trinity and noticed that the deer are moving slow. Landowner says he seen a buck running with his nose to the ground but I have not witnessed any as of yet. I found four good scrapes so if they are not in full swing of rut they should be this next weekend.

Anderson county Saturday was slow and hot saw a couple bucks chasing doe, sunday morning it was like a switch got hit 3 hunters on 200 acres saw lots of deer moving it was foggy nasty and hot. I caught the best buck of my life running a doe hard about 7:30am I think the rut is full swing up here from what i saw sunday we had bucks run in on us while we were loading up the buck I killed. Check my thread in the photo's section for the pictures!

They are definitely still hitting the acorns hard. I have 3 mature oaks between my ground blind and the feeder. I'm also setup down in a bottom that is a nice little travel route through my land.

The deer spend 90% of their time under the 3 oak trees. They don't come in when the feeder goes off, they simply eat acorns forever and occasionally corn for a few minutes.. Half the time they'll eat acorns..then some corn..then back to acorns.

Game cam pics show the bucks as being mostly nocturnal the past 2 weeks. Hopefully the weather will change that this week and into the weekend.

I hunt Marion county between Avinger and Jefferson. As others have said the deer are not interested in corn at the feeders. The few deer we do see during the day are simply trotting by. May or may not even look up at the feeders. I think pre-rut is very close but most of the activity is at night even with no moon.

This East Texas hunting is all new to me. Back where I am from in the San Angelo area, if you go a more then a day or so with no deer at your feeder you know something isn't right! lol

You need to call it...I can't call it for you.

I hunt in Jasper Co. and things are pretty slow, not seeing near as many deer. I have some predictable groups of doe that come to my feeders somewhat regularly, but the bucks are no where to be found. Have some game cam pics of a few bucks at night, but almost nothing during daylight hours. Several scrapes I saw on opening weekend were freshly pawed, but this past weekend they didn't appear to be active. I'm thinking either the rut is over already, or the warm weather has made it a dud and it will kick back up around Thanksgiving. Took a doe on opening weekend to the processor and he said this was the worst opening weekend he's ever had in 20+ years. He thinks the AR's are keeping the numbers way down this year.

Im hunting in Henderson County and it has been real slow as well. Four hunters have only seen two bucks one small young 6 and a 8pt that was barely legal. Doe activity has been down this year as well. As far as I can tell we have no rutting activiy yet.

NW Leon county was real slow this last weekend. I only saw one little 4 point. My buddy saw a few does at the other stand. I think it was too hot. I saw lots of little bucks and does opening weekend. The little bucks were running like crazy with their head down! We still have quite a few acorns but a noticeable difference between the quantity from opening weekend to last weekend. Set up another feeder. Now I'll wait until Thanksgiving to go back out there. Let'em have a little piece and quiet for a while.

I'm not really much of a deer hunter but we camped out Friday night and went to the stand early Saturday morning. This is in northeast Smith Co.

My son and I saw a couple of doe shortly after the feeder went off. They came out from the woods and I thought they were headed toward the feeder. They just turned and walked over the hill. Never really looked at the feeder.

My brother in law was on another stand and saw nothing.

We have seen some good bucks and a number of doe earlier this year but nothing was moving on Saturday am.

Maybe with some colder weather...

I hunted Fannin county last Wed. thru Saturday. Kinda more North than east, but NOTHING was happening then. My buddy, who is still hunting there, said they turned on this morning. Big and little bucks are chasing does now. Figures, cause I don't have any more time off work till December.

Mmmm Hmmm
