What shotgun is good for cowboy action shooting (CAS) and hunting? I mean, what CAS shotgun has an adjustable choke? Thanks.

They use a lot of really old lever action shotguns. Don't think you gonna find one with adjustable chokes.

the lever action shotguns are slow UNLESS you have the 2-shot kit installed and practice practice practice. I use a hammerless double or my Winchester 97. In Wild Bunch matches...at least at the Cleburne matches we can use an Auto5. My savage Auto 5 is cut down to 18 1/4" inches...fast and quick.

do stoeger coach guns have adjustable chokes? does a winchester 97 have adjustable choke? which lever action shotgun has adjustable choke? auto 5 is a semi-auto. I thought only coach guns, lever actions, and pumps were allowed? I'm obviously wrong, but do they have an adjustable choke? thanks. I think I'm going to get an original Winchester 97 with poly choke for hunting and CAS. What are your thoughts on this?:

some stoegers have choke tubes...a good gunsmith can install them in any barrel. my winchester 97's are all open choked for CAS. they are all cut down to 20" and work just fine for the op close targets and for the clay targets that sometimes get thrown at a few stages. the AUTO 5 is legal only in the Wild Bunch Side match. SASS rules allow only the 97 winchester in 12 guage...but when we have our Wild Bunch Side match we allow 97's, Model 12's, side by sides and the Auto 5. the 97 winchester is just as fast as the Auto 5 in the hands of a guy who knows what he is doing. Some guys can load and fire a side by side as fast as a guy with a pump. Wild Bunch matches also use 1911 45acp, or a Luger 9mm pistol, or revolvers of the time period prior to 1915. but most everybody uses 1911. it is fun...my 12 year old loves shooting the wild bunch matches cause he can blast away with the Auto 5 and the 1911.

Is an adjustable choke shotgun legal for cowboy action shooting? Chokes weren't around in 1897, but if I adjust the choke to be widest pattern (as if I had no choke), I could use it for CAS, right? I just want to use the same gun for CAS and hunting because I don't want to waste money getting 2 shotguns. I am thinking about buying a Winchester 1897 with poly choke for CAS and hunting (per the pic that I posted). Thanks.

Yes, the Stoeger Coach Supreme has removable chokes. Yes, its legal for SASS Don't shoot it with choke tubes removed, it will screw up the threads. I have model 31491, 20ga, Stainless and Blue. Its a SOB to find. http://www.stoegerindustries.com/firearms/stoeger_coach_gun_supreme.phpI'll sell you mine NIB for $ 450 FTF SA Area.
