Ok maybe someone here can help me. Just got thru shooting my rifle and its slingin shots in about a 6" diameter. The gun is 25 years old and theres no way I have shot enough to hurt it. Didnt shoot anything with it last year but the year before I shot 2 turkeys in the head with it so it was on and shooting consistent. Maybe 3 years ago I sent the scope back to Leupold and they re-worked it. My dad gave me the gun when I was 12 and I really would like to keep using it but if I cant fix this I guess I will buy a new one. I dont shoot re loads just factory Remington core lokt 130 gr. I checked the rings and base and it all is tight and the cross hairs appear to be fine. Any one have any ideas ????

Whens the last time you cleaned it?(bore brush and solvent), it may sound stupid but I know a guy with a winchester that old and he had NEVER cleaned it(20+ years) and had the same problem. we cleaned the bore out really well and it went from 6" to 2" @100yds then changed ammo to winchester balistic siver tips and it was under 1".
just some things to try that are both quick easy and cheap, Also are you shooting from sand bags, shooting vise, or over the hood of a truck?
If you clean it try some differnt ammo and have it on a good rest and its still doing 6" then its gotta be the scope.
OH ...Dont forget to check the screws that hold the action in the stock..some times they can work loose.

probably so, but before you send it off try cleaning it and using different ammo. ive had some guns that would shoot good with one load, but terrible with another. ive had 3 experiences like yours: 1 the scope had an internal spring come loose, the other 2 were with remington model 7400's and both of them had their lifetime's worth of rounds down the tube

I'd start with a good barrel cleaning. Scrub it with a wire brush, solvent, etc. Run white bore pads through it until they come out clean. IMO, I wouldn't jump the gun on the scope yet. I've had real good experience with Leupold products, and have never had one walk on me. I'm a big fan of .270's, I've got several. Every single one of them shoot less than 2" groups @ 100 yards on a bad day. To be honest, I'm not too impressed with the Rem core-lokt ammo lately. I've found much better shot consistency with Winchester, and my favorite, Fed Premium 130 gr. ballistic tip. So, I'd go back to the range with a very clean barrel and some different ammo, and give it another shot...... Let me know how you come out...

You say that 2 years ago you shot turkeys in the head, but 3 years ago you sent the scope in.
I would start by changing ammo before doing "anything" else.

Thats the rounds that I have always shot through it, is it possible that a gun can change the way it shoots a particular round after time ? I will shoot again this afternoon and see what happens, I cleaned it yesterday evening but it wasnt very dirty. Thanks for all the help guys.

Check for bore rust in the 1st couple of inches of the muzzle. As mentioned above, give 'er a good cleaning.

There's clean, and then there's CLEAN.
How long did you spend on it? A dirty bore can take quite some time to get really clean. Two passes with a Hoppes soaked patch and then another with a dry patch isn't exactly what everyone is recommending.
And I'll second the motion to try something else besides the green box Remington's. I don't think their QC is as good as it was 10 or 15 years ago.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

If cleaning did not help, try the scope. I had one Leopold that I sent back two different times
